Baylor’s Tennis Facility Tabbed Nation’s Best
WACO, Texas – Baylor's Mark & Paula Hurd Tennis Center has been named the College Tennis Facility of the Year by the Racquet Sports Industry magazine, it was announced.
The Hurd Tennis Center served as the home of collegiate tennis once again in 2024-25, hosting numerous high-profile tournaments and competitions throughout the season, including the inaugural 2024-25 NCAA Individual Championships, the 2025 Big 12 Championships and the 2025 NCAA Team Championships. The facility has established itself as one of the premier collegiate tennis venues in the nation since its debut.
This marks the second time the Hurd Tennis Center has been tabbed the nation's best, also earning the honor in 2015 by Tennis Magazine.
The state-of-the-art facility features seating for 2,000 fans around its 12 courts, with a main grandstand and the back riverside courts along the banks of the Brazos River. Before hosting the NCAA and Big 12 Championships in 2024-25, Baylor resurfaced each of the 12 courts and installed a new videoboard in the main grandstand.
Baylor also served as a co-host of the ITA Men's Indoor National Championships, along with SMU, and hosted at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Facility in 2024.
"The Hurd Tennis Center is a prime example of how the bring a tennis community together," Fred Viancos, Executive Director of USTA Texas, said in the RSI feature. "Serving as a central hub for a top-ranked collegiate program and the tennis community at large, it helps raise the profile of tennis in Waco and across Central Texas."
The award recognizes excellence in facility design, maintenance, operational efficiency, and overall contribution to the collegiate tennis experience.
