STORY LINES
• Baylor Softball opens the 2025 season with the Getterman Classic, hosting No. 24/21 Mississippi State, New Mexico, Wichita State and Northwestern State
• BU will open its season against a ranked opponent for the fifth time in the last eight, splitting those previous meetings 2-2. The Bears are 19-6 in season openers under Glenn Moore
• The Bears own a 59-14 mark all-time against the four opponents in town this weekend (7-0 vs. MSU; 12-6 vs. UNM, 8-6 against Wichita State and 32-2 against Northwestern State)
• Baylor boasts an 86-20 (.811) mark in the Getterman Classic in the Moore Era, with it's best record being 6-0 (2002, 2003 and 2005). The only time BU has ever gone winless in the Getterman was a two-game edition against No. 2 Tennessee to open the 2024 season
• Sunday's Getterman Finale will be a family affair as Lorena, Texas, native and former BU pitcher Jenny [Isham] Fuller (2008-09) brings her Northwestern State Demons to town.
• After being a JUCO All-American at MCC, Fuller led the team in wins [11] and shutouts [3] during the 2008 season
• Moore's son Ty is also a Graduate Assistant on Fuller's staff in Natchitoches
• Moore enters his 30th season as a head coach, making him the fifth-longest tenured power-conference head coach
• His 1,081 career wins put him ninth among all active coaches (6th among power-conference coaches)
• Thursday will mark the start of the home season for the Bears, as the 2025 squad went 15-12 last season at home
• Boasting a 487-194 mark all-time inside the friendly confines, BU has had a winning record in all but one full season of competition since its doors were opened in 1999.
• The Bears have 14 matchups against teams featured in the ESPN/USA Softball Preseason Top 25 including dates with both of the Preseason No. 1 teams (Texas Tech and Texas)
• BU will play home dates with No. 24 Miss. State (2/5), No. 1 Texas (3/21), No. 11 Texas A&M (4/15) and No. 20 Oklahoma State (4/24-26), with road contests scheduled at No. 12 Clemson (2/21), at RV UCF (3/13-15), at No. 1 Texas (3/20) and at No. 1 Texas Tech (4/30-5/2).
• Brooklyn Carter represented the Bears on this seasons Preseason All-Big 12 Softball squad, BU's fifth preseason all-conference selection in the five-year history of the preseason team
• Carter enters the season with 71 career stolen bases, which is seventh-best in the country and second-best in the Power Four
• Picked eighth in the Preseason Big 12 Coaches Poll, Baylor has met or outperformed its preseason expectations in 17 of Moore's 25 previous seasons at Baylor
• Tasked with replacing several key players, including the programs second three-time All-American in Shaylon Govan, the Bears bring in a mix of experienced veterans and talented newcomers.
• The Captain of the defense, Amber Toven brings 165 games of college experience into 2026, including 118 in Green and Gold
• Toven teams up with a new double-play partner, Faith Piper, who replaces Presleigh Pilon at second base. The Duo is gunning for the program record for double-plays in a season (31 in 2023), after BU tallied 28 twin-killings in 2025
• Leah Cran enters her third season with the Bears, bringing 62 games and 47 starts of experience, hitting .362 in 69 at-bats a season ago
• Sophomore Karynton Dawson brings elite speed to the outfield, tallying the team lead in triples (4) a season ago
• Robinson, Texas, native Kaygen Marshall was named to D1Softball's D100 freshmen watch list, joining her fellow freshmen, Gianna Gusman and Harper Haas on the Softball America Big 12 Freshman Watch List
• After a season plauged by injuries in the circle, Baylor brought in some reinforcements in Tennessee Transfer Peyton Tanner (Lake Jackson, Texas) and Arizona State Cambree Creager (Georgetown, Texas) to couple with Kaci West, Sadie Ross and Lexie Warncke to bolster a deep pitching staff
• Toven (Arizona, 2022), Carter (Washington, 2023) and Tanner (Tennessee, 2025) all boast Women's College World Series experience at their former stops
• Baylor debuted it's new Peggy Hawkins Softball Locker Room this January after a five-month renovation. Loyal softball supporters helped BU fund a transformational project that exceeded half a million dollars
• It's fitted with flat-screen TVs, a lounge, a nutrition center, a hallway vanity and several other State-of-the-Art amenities
