Littlepage-Buggs repeats on the ballot, Scott lands first career coaches association nod
ATLANTA – Baylor women's basketball's Darianna Littlepage-Buggs and Taliah Scott have been named finalists for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Coaches' All-America Team, the association announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Baylor duo was selected by WBCA-member head coaches in the region to advance to the 48-player ballot for the 10-player All-America Team, which is voted on by a committee and announced during the WBCA Convention held in conjunction with the women's Final Four next month in Phoenix.
Littlepage-Buggs, a finalist last season who later earned honorable mention All-America recognition, returns to the pool as the only Big 12 player averaging a double-double for the second straight year. She currently leads the league in double-doubles, rebounds, defensive rebounds per game and rebounds per game.
The Oklahoma City native earned two All-Big 12 honors after the regular season, landing on the All-Big 12 Second Team for the second time and securing a spot on the All-Defensive Team.
Littlepage-Buggs continues to climb the program record book, ranking fourth in career rebounds (1,144) and seventh in career starts (111). Her rebounding total also ranks eighth in Big 12 history. She became the eighth Bear to collect 1,000 career rebounds and is one of only five active Division I players with at least 1,000 rebounds and 100 steals.
Scott, who accounted for 27% of Baylor's scoring this season, ranks top three in the Big 12 in free throws, free-throw attempts, free-throw percentage, points and scoring average. She enters the NCAA Tournament averaging 20.0 points, highlighted by a season-high 32 against Iowa at the WBCA State Farm Showcase in Orlando.
The Orange Park, Fla., native was voted to the All-Big 12 First Team after averaging 18.7 points in league play with 80 made 3-pointers and 189 made free throws on the year.
Scott became just the 22nd Division I player since 2000 to reach 1,000 career points in 48 games or fewer, tying the 19th-fastest effort in that span. She is also one of two DI players this season averaging at least 20 points while shooting 90 percent or better from the free-throw line, putting her on pace to be the first in Big 12 history to hit both marks over a full season. She ranks third in Baylor history for single-season 3-pointers, fifth for points in a sophomore season and sixth for single-season free throws.
Finalists not selected for the 10-player All-America team will receive honorable mention.
