Harker Heights native returns to Texas
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's basketball announced the addition of veteran rebounder Evan Chatman on Wednesday. Chatman, a native of Harker Heights, Texas, joins the Bears after a season at UAB and two prior seasons at McLennan Community College.
A 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward, Chatman ranked fourth in the American Athletic Conference in total rebounds with 281 and led the conference in defensive rebounds with 199 in 2025-26. Chatman appeared in all 32 games for the Blazers, making 29 starts, and averaged 8.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. The incoming senior also tallied 26 blocks on the season, second-most on the team.
Chatman's 281 total rebounds ranked 10th in UAB single-season history, and his 8.8 rebounds-per-game average tied for ninth all-time in the program's record books. He recorded a career-high 22 points against Memphis and pulled down a career-best 17 rebounds against Rice.
The Blazers and Chatman finished 20-12 overall in 2025-26, including a 10-2 away record, and went 11-7 in conference play to finish fourth in the American standings.
Before his time at UAB, Chatman spent two seasons at McLennan Community College in Waco. In his sophomore year at MCC in 2024-25, he averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks across 32 appearances while shooting 45-percent from the field, 34-percent from three and 83-percent from the free-throw line. As a freshman, he averaged 7.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in 12 games before suffering a season-ending injury.
Chatman, a product of Harker Heights High School, shares high schools with former Baylor Bear Royce O'Neale (2013-15), who is currently playing with the Phoenix Suns.
Chatman will join Baylor with one year of eligibility remaining as an incoming senior.
