Bears ride Armstrong’s 17th and 18th homers to 6-2 win over the Mavericks
WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball rode a pair of Tyce Armstrong home runs and an 11-hit performance to secure a weather-shortened 6-2 win over UT Arlington Tuesday night at Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark.
After UTA (16-26, 5-7 WAC) struck first in the opening frame, the Bears (23-21, 9-12 Big 12) with runs in each of the second and third innings to pull away on the heels of Armstrong's fifth multi-home run game of the season.
Junior catcher JJ Kennett added a season-high three hits and an RBI, while sophomore infielder Pearson Riebock tacked on an RBI groundout to join Armstrong's multi-RBI night. Freshman outfielder Dylan Perez also drove in two runs to help BU to the victory.
Junior right-handed pitcher Charlie Atkinson picked up the win as one of four Bears to throw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.
THE RUNDOWN
UTA got on the board first in the top of the opening frame, pushing across a run on an RBI groundout to take the game's first lead. Baylor starter freshman righty Caldwell McFaddin worked a scoreless second to keep the Mavericks off the board, then BU answered in the home half by loading the bases and plating two on Perez's two-run single.
In the third, UTA knotted the scoreline at 2-2 with an RBI fielder's choice. Then, the Bears charged in front in the bottom of the third as Armstrong launched a solo homer to spark a three-run inning. Kennett added an RBI single and Riebock drove in another to put BU back in front at 5-2.
Both sides stayed quiet over the middle innings, with UTA unable to cash in with a runner in scoring position in the top of the sixth. Armstrong added another in the bottom half, a solo shot that cleared the batter's eye for his 18th of the season, extending Baylor's lead to 6-2.
Play was then halted due to lightning in the area and later called with the threat of further inclement weather. The win snaps Baylor's six-game losing streak and marked its 2,500th win in program history.

"I'm sure that's fun for him. I'm glad to see him squaring balls up and driving balls out of the ballpark. He hit a couple on Sunday at ASU and so now, love for him to be getting hot here at the end of the year and just keep on rolling."
