BIG 12 DAY 2 RESULTS
TUCSON, Ariz. – While junior All-American Molly Haywood saw her personal streak of Big 12 championships snapped at four, senior Tenly Kuhn gave Baylor its sixth conference pole vault title in a row on Friday at the Big 12 Championship at Drachman Stadium.
In a tight head-to-head matchup ultimately decided by fewer misses, Kuhn hit each of her first three heights on first attempts and won her first Big 12 championship with a winning vault of 14 feet, 8 inches, with Haywood second at the same height and Alencia Lentz fourth at 14-0.
"It means so much to me," Kuhn said, "because I came from being a walk-on here at Baylor to a Big 12 champion. I'm very excited for regionals and nationals up next."
With sophomores Logan Todorovich and Janae De Gannes adding third-place finishes in the heptathlon and long jump, respectively, the Baylor women ended Day 2 at the Big 12 meet tied for third with Oklahoma State with 35 points. BYU is first with 46 points going into the final day, with the host Arizona team second with 37 points.
The runner-up at last year's Big 12 outdoor meet, De Gannes matched her third-place finish at this year's Big 12 Indoor with a mark of 20-9 ¼ after leading through the first four rounds of jumps. Arizona's Sydnie Vanek had her winning jump of 21-4 on her final attempt, while Kansas State's Aaliyah Lindsey was second at 21-0 ¾.
"Big day for our field event crew," Baylor head coach Mchael Ford said of the Bears picking up 29 of their 35 points in the pole vault and long jump.
With personal bests in five of the seven events, including nearly a 10-foot improvement in the javelin throw (135-6), Todorovich shattered her own program record in the heptathlon with 5,830 points. That moved her from 13th up to sixth nationally, virtually assuring her a spot at the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore.
"I feel like I've been working pretty hard," Todorovich said. "I still have a lot more to do before getting there and competing. But I'm excited to take a step in the right direction."
Fifth after the first four events, Todorovich moved up two spots with her first-place performance in the javelin, third in the long jump (19-7 ½) and a 2:22.63 clocking in the 800 meters that was just off her career best.
"(Assistant coach Chase Hood) and I have been working on it, putting it all together and taking it one by one," Todorovich said. "I definitely had a goal to (finish in the top three). It was just going out there and doing it."
Logan's younger sister, freshman Madilyn Todorovich, finished 11th in the heptathlon with a personal-best 5,300 points. Kiara Wesseh was 16th with a PR point total of 5,144.
"Really proud of Logan and Coach Hood," Ford said, "finishing third overall with a new school record. Also happy with Madi and Kiara getting personal bests."
On the track, the women advanced three to the finals in both the 100 and 200, with Kelley recording the top time in the 200 meters (22.56) and third-fastest in the 100 (11.33). Laurenz Colbert also advanced in the 100 and 200, Malik Franklin got through in the 400 meters with a career-best time of 45.80 and Demario Prince had the second-fastest qualifying time in the 110-meter hurdles.
Saturday's final-day action begins with field events at 3 p.m. and an evening running session that will include the running finals and 10,000 meter run.
Live results are available at Big 12 Championship, with the meet streamed by ESPN+
