Juan Benitez was named a student assistant coach for the 2019 spring season after returning back to school in fall 2018.

2016-17 (Sophomore):
Two-time ITA All-American in sophomore campaign...Earned ITA All-America honors in doubles with teammate Will Little after advancing to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals...Earned bid to NCAA Singles Championship and earned All-America honors by being the No. 15 seed, falling in the round of 64 to North Florida’s Jack Findel-Hawkins...Ranked as high as No. 13 in ITA standings and compiled a 15-8 doubles record...With Little, had six wins over ranked opponents...During NCAA Championship run, defeated two ranked opponents...Advanced to the quarterfinals with 6-7(4), 6-2, 10-8 upset of second-ranked Johannes Ingildsen and Alfredo Perez of Florida in the round of 16...Went 22-10 overall and 17-9 at the No. 1 singles spot while going 10-10 against ranked opponents...Ranked as high as No. 5 in ITA rankings...Highest ranked win came against 13th-ranked Brandon Holt of USC in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5...Had a season-best six-match singles winning streak from Feb. 18 to March 9 that includes three wins over ranked opponents...Got lone Big 12 singles win against 48th-ranked Harrison Scott of Texas, winning 6-3, 7-5 in Austin...Helped BU advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 with a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory over No. 26 Cornell’s David Volfson in the second round...Won the Sherwood Collegiate Cup singles title with five wins in January, including a 6-0, 6-4 win over teammate Max Tchoutakian in the finals.

2014-15 (Freshman):
Joined squad in January...Racked up 5-2 record in singles action, while enjoying 4-1 mark in doubles play...Reached the consolation semifinals at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup, after downing 75th-ranked David Hsu of Stanford, finished with 2-2 mark at event...Played singles in four dual-matches, all at No. 6 position with a 3-0 record...Added points in wins over No. 61 Tulane, Incarnate Word and 70th-ranked UT Arlington...Had four different partners for six doubles matches, recording one victory with each...Closed year by winning final three singles and doubles decisions, but did not play after March 29. 

Prep/Juniors:
Ranked as high as No. 822 in ATP world singles rankings and No. 623 in doubles listings. 

Personal:
Born in Medellin, Colombia...Son of Angela Chavarriaga and Juan Carlos Benitez...Has two brothers, Jacobo and David...Major is communications.
