As the old saying goes, if it weren't for bad luck, Shanay Washington wouldn't have any luck at all. The Austin, Texas, native started 22 games as a freshman and earned the team's Defensive Award after averaging 7.3 points and 3.2 rebounds. On Nov. 20, 2010 (sophomore season), she tore her left ACL and underwent surgery twice to repair her knee. After rehabilitating the injury she was deemed ready to go at the beginning of Big 12 play last season. With 10 games to her credit, Washington suffered another ACL tear, the fifth of her career, thus ultimately ending her collegiate career. While at Baylor she averaged 6.1 points and 2.6 rebounds a contest while shooting 48.2 percent from the floor and 75.0 percent from the charity stripe. A three-year standout at Dell Valle (Texas) High School, Washington was a Parade Magazine All-American and a McDonald's All-American nominee. She averaged 17.8 points, 8.2 rebounds 3.5 steals, 2.8 assists and 1.8 blocks a game as a senior. Washington will graduate from Baylor in May 2013 with a general studies degree. Undecided on major.
