WACO, Texas - Lead by four players that all scored in double digits the Lady Bear basketball team pounded Aabyhoej 93-48 in an exhibition game Monday night at the Ferrell Center.
A nine point run by Baylor to begin the game would prove to be indicative of the Lady Bears performance throughout the night. Offensively the Lady Bears were unstoppable. Freshman Steffanie Blackmon led the offensive attack scoring a team-high 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting while also grabbing nine rebounds to narrowly miss a double-double performance.
Baylor had three other players eclipse the 10-point mark in the game as sophomore Chanelle Fox and senior Sheila Lambert each accounted for 13 points, while senior Danielle Crockrom recorded a double-double scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in just 12 minutes of play.
Struggling to find the basket all evening Aabyhoej shot just 28.6 percent from the field, compared to Baylor's 53.3 percent. Aabyhoej's Amanda Baker was the team's leading scorer turning in 19 points on just 5-of-14 from the floor and 9-of-10 shooting from the line. Nina Vinther also had a solid performance for Aabyhoej scoring 13 points.
"The exhibition games served their purpose," said Lady Bears head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson. "We got a chance to get up and down the floor and look at some different combinations, but it's over and now it's time to play some real games.
"We have a tremendous challenge ahead of us," said Mulkey-Robertson. "The tournament in Reno will be a difficult one and it will challenge us early."
After two exhibition game victories the Lady Bears will begin the regular season this weekend at the Nevada Bell Classic in Reno. Baylor will open up the tournament Fri., Nov. 16 against North Texas. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
