WACO, Texas - Josefin Svenningsson was named Big 12 Women's Golfer of the Month for October, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Svenningsson led Baylor's women's golf team to a championship and a second place finish during October while averaging a 72.17 for the month. The Sweden sophomore won her first tournament and led BU to the team title at the Adidas Fall Invitational with a 54-hole score of 210 which is the best in school history. The score improved her previous best three-round total by 10 strokes and she shot an opening round 69 which is the lowest 18-hole score in Baylor women's golf history. In New Mexico State's Price Invitational, Svenningsson tied for sixth with a 223. Her 73.93 stroke average through the Bears' five fall tournaments established a new school record.
Svenningson is the second Baylor women's golfer to earn Big 12 Golfer of the Month honors. Melanie Hagewood was honored for the month of February 2003.
