GAME NIGHT STORY LINES
• Baylor concludes its four-game homestand to open the regular season against the Jacksonville University Dolphins on Monday at the Ferrell Center. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
• Freshman Quincy Acy set a new Big 12 record with his 18th consecutive field goal made Saturday vs. Southern. Acy is a perfect 18-of-18 from the floor this season and is seven off the NCAA record set by Ray Voelkel (American) in 1979.
• A win Monday...would move Baylor to 4-0 - the second-straight 4-0 start under head coach Scott Drew. A loss Monday...would snap Baylor's three-game win streak to start the season.
• Monday's meeting will be the third in the short series and the first since Dec. 18, 1999. That year, Baylor edged out the Jacksonville Dolphins 82-71 in Jacksonville, Fla.
• In the first three games of the season, Jacksonville (0-3) has shot less than 35 percent, while Baylor has shot better than 50 percent.
• For the third-straight game, Baylor's quintet of Curtis Jerrells, Henry Dugat, Kevin Rogers, LaceDarius Dunn and Quincy Acy have scored in double figures for the Bears. The five have combined to score 230 of Baylor's 283 points (81.3 percent). Baylor has held its opponents to 148 total points through the first three games.
• On Saturday, Baylor held Southern to 25.9 percent shooting from the floor (15-of-58) - the lowest of the Scott Drew Era and the lowest since Nov. 15, 1997 when Troy State shot 19.7 percent (14-of-71).
• Monday will be Baylor's last non-televised game until the Bears host UT Arlington on Dec. 20. All games of the 76 Classic in Anaheim will be aired live on ESPN2 or ESPNU; Baylor's game at Washington State (Dec. 6) will be televised on FSN, followed by its home game with Prairie View A&M (Dec. 13) on FSN Southwest.
• Baylor enters the toughest stretch of its non-conference schedule this week as the Bears travel to Anaheim, Calif., for the second annual 76 Classic. Baylor will face the Providence College Friars in the first round Thanksgiving Night at 10:30 p.m. (CT)/8:30 p.m. (PT) on ESPN2. Scott Graham (pxp) and Stephen Bardo (analyst) will serve as the ESPN talent for Thursday's game.
SERIES HISTORY
• Baylor leads the all-time series 2-0. Monday marks the second meeting in Waco.
• In the last series meeting, Baylor defeated the JU Dolphins 82-71 in Jacksonville during the 1998-99 season. In the first meeting between the scores, Baylor won 68-53 in Waco the previous season.
• Both wins in the series have been by decided by double-digit margins.
• Saturday marks the second consecutive season the schools have met.
JACKSONVILLE SCOUTING REPORT
• Jacksonville's first-half struggles continued Saturda vs. American as the Dolphins couldn't dig themselves out from an 11-point halftime deficit, falling 75-67 at home.
• The Dolphins shot less than 35 percent from the floor in the first half Saturday. Ben Smith was one of two Dolphins in double figures, scoring 18 points despite going 3-for-12 from the floor. Smith offset that mark by connecting on 12-of-14 at the free throw line. Aric Brooks added 11 points off the bench.
• Ben Smith leads the Dolphins with 14.7 points and 6.7 rebounds through three games. Marcus Allen is averaging 11.0 points and 7.3 rebounds. Lehmon Colbert is third on the team with 10.7 points.
LAST SERIES MEETING - BAYLOR 82, JACKSONVILLE 71 [DEC. 18, 1999]
• Jamie Kendrick scored a season-high 19 points and hit a key 3-pointer as Baylor outscored Jacksonville 17-6 in the last five minutes to take an 82-71 victory.
• Baylor led throughout, but saw its lead evaporate when Jacksonville's Marvin Augustin hit a layup to tie the game at 65-65 with 5:18 to play. Kendrick answered by scoring the game's next four points on a free throw with 4:21 left and a 3-pointer from the left wing with 3:49 remaining. The Bears held on for the win in their first road game of the season.
• Five Baylor players scored in double figures vs. Jacksonville, led by Kendrick's 19 points. Terry Black added 16, while Ben Echols chipped in 15 and Tevis Stukes 14.
LAST TIME OUT - BAYLOR 85, SOUTHERN 43 [NOV. 22]
• Quincy Acy scored 15 points and set a Big 12 record for consecutive field goals made in Baylor's 85-43 victory against Southern on Saturday.
• Acy, a freshman, was 5-of-5 from the field to improve to 18-of-18 through three games. He broke the record of 17 set by Texas A&M's DeAndre Jordan last season, his only one with the Aggies.
• A short hook shot with 3:57 left in the game gave Acy the record and put Baylor ahead 74-36. The 3-footer was the longest so far for Acy. His other 17 field goals have been dunks or layups.
• Jazz Williams led Southern with seven points.
• Kevin Rogers, Curtis Jerrells and Henry Dugat scored 13 apiece for the Bears. Dugat had six points in a 16-1 run that put Baylor up 27-9 midway through the first half.
UP NEXT - PROVIDENCE [NOV. 27]
• Baylor enters the toughest stretch of its non-conference schedule this week as the Bears travel to Anaheim, Calif., for the second annual 76 Classic. Baylor will face Providence College in the first round Thanksgiving Night at 10:30 p.m. (CT)/8:30 p.m. (PT) on ESPN2. Scott Graham (pxp) and Stephen Bardo (analyst) will serve as the ESPN talent for Thursday's game.
• The Friars are 3-1 after defeating Maine 83-62 on Saturday. Senior Jeff Xavier led PC with 23 points and added three steals in Providence's third-straight win. After dropping their season opener 70-66 to Northeastern, the Friars have outscored their opponents by nearly 21 points per contest.
LOOKING AHEAD - BAYLOR TO PLAY AT 76 CLASSIC
• Baylor will participate in the second annual 76 Classic, an eight-team tournament played Thanksgiving weekend in Anaheim, Calif. The tournament, which was formerly known as the Anaheim Classic, is sponsored by ConocoPhillips, the parent company of 76.
• The 12-game, bracketed collegiate basketball tournament features eight schools that combined to win more than 62 percent of their games last season. The games will air live on either ESPN2 or ESPNU and will be played at the Anaheim Convention Center adjacent to Disneyland on Nov. 27, 28 and 30.
• Arizona State Preview: The 15th-ranked Sun Devils opened the season 2-0 with victories over Mississippi Valley State and San Diego State. Arizona State is scheduled to play Pepperdine Sunday before opening the 76 Classic vs. Charlotte on Thanksgiving. Preseason All-American James Harden leads the Sun Devils with 21.0 points and 6.5 assists. Ty Abbott is second on the team with 15.5 points and 8.0 rebounds.
• Charlotte Preview: Charlotte dropped a 71-70 heartbreaker to Clemson Saturday in Charlotte. It was the 49ers' second consecutive tough defeat as Charlotte lost 87-84 in overtime at Appalachian State on Wednesday. Lamont Mack leads the 1-3 Charlotte 49ers with 14.0 points and 5.3 rebounds. Ian Andersen is second with 12.3 points, followed by An'Juan Wilderness with 10.8 points and 3.5 rebounds.
WHAT JACKSONVILLE CAN'T DO IN THE FIRST HALF...
• In its first three games to start the season (all losses), Jacksonville has shot the ball poorly in the first half. In the Dolphins' near win at Florida State on Nov. 15, JU shot 24.2 percent (8-of-33) in the first half. At Georgetown, JU shot 28.1 percent (9-of-32). Saturday, the Dolphins shot 34.8 percent (8-of-23) vs. American.
• American shot 71.4 percent (15-of-21) in the second half and shot 55.8 percent (24-of-43) for the game.
...BAYLOR CAN DO BETTER
• In Baylor's first three games, the Bears have shot better than 50 percent, including a Scott Drew era-best 64.0 percent vs. Centenary (32-of-50) last Tuesday on ESPN.
• The Bears have held the opposition below 40 percent shooting in all three games to start the season. Saturday, Southern shot a Scott Drew era-low 25.9 percent against the Bears. It was the lowest field goal percentage by a Baylor opponent since holding Troy State to 19.7 percent from the floor (14-of-71) on Nov. 15, 1997.
DUGAT NARROWLY MISSES JOINING ELITE COMPANY
• Senior guard Henry Dugat narrowly missed joining an elite group of former Baylor Bears Saturday vs. Southern. Dugat scored 13 points, while chipping in a career-high 10 rebounds (all defensive) and 9 assists (also a career high), falling one assist short of recording just the third triple-double in school history.
• Current L.A. Clipper Brian Skinner (1995) and Baylor student manager David Wesley (1991) are the other players in school history with a triple-double.
THREE GAMES IN, ACY ALREADY SETTING RECORDS
• Freshman forward Quincy Acy has only played three games as a Baylor Bear, but he has already set a new Big 12 record. With his 18th field goal, Acy set a new Big 12 record for consecutive field goals made, surpassing Texas A&M's DeAndre Jordan (17 in 2007).
• Acy needs seven more to match the NCAA record of 25 set by American's Ray Voelkel in 1979 (nine games, Nov. 24-Dec. 16).
• Kent State's Doug Grayson holds the NCAA single-game record of 16 against North Carolina on Dec. 6, 1967 (18-of-19).
STILL PERFECT
• Freshman Quincy Acy is a perfect 18-of-18 from floor through the first two games of his Baylor career.
• Acy scored a career-high 15 points in Tuesday's 90-55 win over Centenary and again Saturday vs. Southern
• ACY DUNK COUNTER: 11 (first 4 field goals vs. Centenary were dunks)
Quincy Acy: HUMAN HIGHLIGHT REEL
• Freshman Quincy Acy made the most of his Baylor debut Saturday against the Paul Quinn Tigers. The Mesquite, Texas, native poured in a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Bears to the 58-point win.
• Four (4) of Acy's six field goals came via electrifying and highlight-reel dunks that brought the Ferrell Center crowd to its feet.
FIVE OF A KIND
• In addition to a double-double in his first collegiate game, Quincy Acy also added five steals and five blocked shots. Acy just missed cracking the single-game top 10 in blocked shots [six different players have recorded six blocked shots in a game; Mamadou Diene and Brian Skinner have done it multiple times].
• However, Acy's five steals rank as the ninth-most single-game total in school history [for complete list, see page 192 in media guide].
FIVE TIMES THREE
• Saturday, Baylor had five players score in double figures for the third-straight game.
• And, for the third-straight game, Curtis Jerrells, LaceDarius Dunn, Quincy Acy, Henry Dugat and Kevin Rogers scored in double figures. Against Centenary, the quintet combined to score 80 points. The same five scored 84 in the season opener vs. Paul Quinn. Baylor scored 66 vs. Southern on Saturday.
CJ'S CAREER RECORD CLIMB CONTINUES
• Curtis Jerrells moved into 9th place with 1,235 career points Saturday vs. Souther, passing Willie Sublett, David Wesley and Vinnie Johnson.
• Jerrells is now tied for 5th place with 314 career assists. CJ is two assists away from 4th place (316) and six from 3rd place (Aaron Bruce - 320).
• Currently in 9th place all-time with 108 steals, Jerrells needs two to move into 8th place (110). He is 7 away from 7th place (115), 8 from 6th (116) and 9 from 5th (117).
BAYLOR LOVES THE 90S
• Under head coach Scott Drew, Baylor is 21-2 when scoring 90 or more points. Both losses occurred last season in Big 12 play (2/9/08 at Kansas and 2/19/08 at Oklahoma).
• Tuesday's 90-point outburst vs. Centenary marked the fifth time in the Drew Era that Baylor has posted back-to-back 90-point games.
