WACO, Texas - Baylor head women's golf coach Sylvia Ferdon announced the signing of Kaylin Terry to a National Letter of Intent for the 2010-11 academic year Wednesday.
Terry, a native of Austin, Texas, is currently ranked by Golfweek as the No. 62 player in the nation from the Class of 2010. Last season, she was a District 25-5A medalist (73-71=144), while serving as Westlake High School's team captain. She also ranks 68th in the nation according to AJGA Polo Golf.
"We are proud to sign as talented a golfer as Kaylin (Terry)," Ferdon said. "She was highly recruited in our region, so we are very excited she chose to be a Baylor Bear!"
Terry has been named Westlake varsity golf's MVP three times. She has posted three top-15 high school regional finishes, while finishing tied for first in the District 25-5A tournament as a freshman and sophomore. In addition to her 1.6 USGA handicap, Terry has six top-five finishes on the Texas Junior Golf Tour in 2008-09 and three top-10 AJGA tournament finishes to her credit. She shot 220 (75-74-71) to earn individual medalist honors at the AJGA Bob Estes Abilene Junior.
She carded a career-low round of 67 at the 2008 Central Texas Women's Amateur to tie for second place. Terry currently holds a 4.0 unweighted GPA at Westlake High School and as a member of the My Alpha Theta Math and National Honor Societies.
"Kaylin's win in the Abilene America Junior Golf Association showed us her determination, her golf talent and her competitiveness," Ferdon said. "She displayed the components needed to be a winner, without having a coach or a caddy by her side. That is significant in our sport.
"She has the heart for the game and she fits the type of person we need in our golf program to move forward," Ferdon said.
The Baylor women's golf team will open its spring schedule Feb. 7-9, 2010, at the Purdue-hosted Lady Puerto Rice Classic in Rio Grande, P.R.
