FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Jaclyn Jansen carded the low final round, shooting 2-under 70, to help the Baylor women's golf team to a fifth-place finish Tuesday at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.

Jansen secured her second career top-five finish, tying for fifth place with a career-low 3-under 213. One of three Big 12 golfers to finish in the top five, Jansen bested her previous 36- and 54-hole low scores by one stroke. At the 2009 Ptarmigam Ram Fall Classic, she shot 2-under 214 to finish eighth overall. The Effingham, Ill., native was the only Lady Bears golfer to card multiple sub-par rounds at Ptarmigan.

Baylor, which led the 17-team field after 18 holes Monday, shot 293 during Tuesday's round to finish at 10-over 874. Colorado won the Ptarmigan Classic at 1-over 865, two strokes ahead of California (867). Oregon finished third at 8-over 872, followed by Louisville in fourth at 9-over 873.

Host Colorado State, which owned a three-stroke lead entering the final round, finished sixth overall at 13-over 877. Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro won the individual title, finishing at 9-under 207 - two strokes ahead of second-place Emily Talley of Colorado.

"It really came down to a couple of shots here and a couple of shots there," head coach Sylvia Ferdon said. "I'm happy with the outcome; I cannot be disappointed after we beat a top-25 program like New Mexico and a Big 12 rival like Texas Tech."

Chelsey Cothran netted her seventh career top-15 finish with a 13th-place showing. Cothran shot a final-round 73, tallying a career-low 1-over 217 for the tournament. Occupying the No. 1 spot in the Baylor lineup, senior Lene Hafsten-Morch tied for 34th at 8-over 224.

"Everyone pulled through under pressure," Ferdon said. "I was pleased to see Jaclyn (Jansen) and Chelsey (Cothran) form a 1-2 punch for us. I'm proud to see them play that well and throw up their best 54-hole scores."

Baylor's other two seniors, Jordan Rhodes and Morgan Chambers, tied for 43rd and 72nd, respectively. Rhodes carded a final-round 82 to finish the tournament at 10-over 226. Chambers (79-80-76=235), who was making her first tournament appearance since Nov. 2009, recorded her best round at the Ptarmigan with a 76 Tuesday.

"Overall, we are starting out the season well, but there are things to work on," Ferdon said. "It was still a good day for the Lady Bears."

Next up for the Lady Bears is the Johnie Imes Invitational on Oct. 4-5 at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. Live scoring will be provided on www.golfstat.com.
