Alamo Invitational Live Scoring
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - After posting back-to-back tournament victories, the Baylor women's golf team will conclude its fall schedule Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the Alamo Invitational at Briggs Ranch Golf Club. Baylor enters its fall finale ranked No. 23 in the latest Golfstat standings and No. 27 in the latest Golfweek / Sagarin rankings.
The 54-hole tournament will feature 18 holes on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 6,272-yard course. Baylor is joined in the 14-team field by host UTSA, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri State, Nebraska, New Mexico State, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech and UCF. Live scoring for each round will be available at www.golfstat.com. In each of their last two trips to San Antonio for the Alamo Invitational, the Lady Bears finished seventh.
Baylor's lineup remains unchanged for its fourth and final four tournament and features three seniors - Jaclyn Jansen, Chelsey Cothran and Valerie Sternebeck - and two freshmen - Hayley Davis and Stani Schiavone.
The Lady Bears' stellar fall can be attributed to the play of Davis, Cothran and Jansen, who have combined for all six of Baylor's top-10 finishes. Jansen is coming off her second career individual tournament victory, sharing the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate medalist honors with Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro. The Effingham, Ill., native shot a career-low 5-under 211.
Davis, the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for September, leads the Lady Bears with a 72.11 scoring average, a -0.22 score vs. par and six rounds of par or better. Cothran ranks second in scoring average (72.89), score vs. par (0.56) and rounds of par or better (five), but leads the Lady Bears in percentage of rounds counted (94.4 percent). Jansen is third with a 74.11 scoring average.
Baylor enters the Alamo Invitational winners of its last two tournaments - Dick McGuire Invitational and Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate. Baylor has won back-to-back tournaments for the first time since the spring of 2009, when the Lady Bears won the Cincinnati Spring Invitational and the Susie Maxwell-Berning Classic. Prior to their win at Price's, the Lady Bears hadn't won consecutive fall tournaments since 2004.
Baylor has never won three consecutive tournaments and has won three or more fall tournaments only once in program history (2002).
With the conclusion of its fall schedule, the Baylor women's golf team will open its spring slate Feb. 12-14, 2012, at the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla.
