Alamo Invitational Results
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Freshman Hayley Davis is tied for a share of the individual lead at 4-under, while the Baylor women's golf team is tied for second Monday at the Alamo Invitational.
Through 36 holes, No. 23 Baylor is at even-par 576, two strokes behind second-day leader Nebraska. The Lady Bears are well within striking distance of capturing their third consecutive tournament victory, which would be a program first. Baylor and host UTSA - both tied for second - shot matching scores of 283 in the second round, second only to Nebraska's tournament-record 280. No. 33 TCU is in fourth at 3-over 579, followed by fifth-place Texas Tech at 4-over 580.
"We were finally able to get off to a better start and it shows in our score," head coach Jay Goble said. "We played pretty solid all day. With our highest score being 2-over, it shows how deep this team is. Everyone's score can count at any time."
Davis, ranked 29th nationally by Golfstat, owns a share of the lead with first-round leader Monifa Sealy of UCF at 4-under 140. Davis and Sealy are one stroke up on UTSA's Fabiola Arriaga, who is in third place at 3-under 141. The Hailsham, England, native was 3-under through 17 holes before dropping to 2-under after a bogey on No. 18.
Senior Chelsey Cothran carded a team- and career-low 68 in the second round, catapulting herself to an eighth-place tie through 36 holes at 1-under 143. Cothran shot 2-under on both the front and back nine to post a career-low 18-hole scorer.
"Chelsey (Cothran) played phenomenal Monday and I'm super proud of her," Goble said. "Hayley (Davis) played as consistent as always. She played her game which we were hoping she'd do. Hayley's in contention to win it and is starting to hit the ball well again."
Senior Valerie Sternebeck is tied for 13th, two strokes behind Cothran, at 1-over 145. Sternebeck was 1-under through 15 holes before bogeys on 16 and 17 set her back to 1-over for the day. Freshman Stani Schiavone is tied for 38th at 6-over 150. After carding a second-round 72, senior Jaclyn Jansen is tied for 44th at 7-over 151.
The final round of the Alamo Invitational will begin Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
