Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic Results (First and Second Rounds) Get Acrobat Reader

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Freshman Hayley Davis is two strokes out of the lead and the Baylor women's golf team is in fourth place Monday after two rounds at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.

Davis carded scores of 69 and 70 to finish the day in second place at 5-under 139. UC Davis' Demi Runas is the individual leader through 36 holes at 7-under 137. Colorado's Jennifer Coleman and Illinois' Ember Schuldt are tied for third overall at 3-under 141.

UC Davis (1-under 575) owns a slim one-stroke lead over second-place Colorado (even-par 576). Illinois is in third at 3-over 579, followed by Baylor in fourth at 12-over 588. Cal is in fifth place at 13-over 589.

"I am extremely pleased with how we started Monday," first-year head coach Jay Goble said. "Our veterans have some work to do, but our newcomers played very well. We left a lot of shots out on the course, but I feel like we're a good team. We didn't make the putts we needed, but I'm confident they will drop Tuesday."

Davis tallied seven birdies Monday, including four in the first round (three on the front nine). Her 3-under 69 was the third-lowest score during the first round, behind only UC Davis' Demi Runas (66) and Colorado State's Betsy Kelly (68).

Freshman Stani Schiavone is tied for 19th overall at 4-over 148. The Bangor, Pa., native opened her career-first college tournament with a 76, but responded with an even-par 72 in the second round. Fellow newcomer Valerie Sternebeck is tied for 28th at 5-over 149.

Chelsey Cothran is tied for 45th at 8-over 152, while Jaclyn Jansen, who finished fifth in last year's Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, is tied for 73rd at 14-over 158.

"Hayley's an unbelievable golfer," Goble said. "She needs to keep doing what she's doing. She goes through the process very well; she picks the right club off the tee. She hit 14 greens in the morning round, and 13 in the afternoon.

"When you are hitting that many greens, you are going to be successful," Goble said. "If she continues with that game plan, she has a very good chance of winning this tournament."

The final round of the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic will tee off Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. CDT. Live scoring will be available on www.GolfStat.com.
