Oct. 25, 2014 WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team is headed to San Antonio, Texas, to play in the sixth-annual Alamo Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio. The three-day, 54-hole tournament runs Sunday through Tuesday.

The event is held at the par-72, 6,428-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club. This year's 15-team field includes No. 5 Arkansas, No. 24 Auburn, Baylor, Florida State, Houston, No. 27 LSU, Oklahoma, No. 36 SMU, TCU, No. 49 Texas, No. 20 Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, No. 40 Tulane and UTSA.

"We've played at this course every year I've been here, so this is our fourth time since I've been here," head coach Jay Goble said. "We finished second here my first year and then we've had moderate success since then, so I think it's a course we feel really comfortable on."

Baylor, which is ranked No. 55 in the latest Golfstat rankings, has competed in the Alamo Invitational every year since the inaugural tournament in 2009. Last year, the Lady Bears finished in 13th place as a team, shooting 25-over 893. Laura Lonardi also recorded her best career finish by tying for seventh individually, finishing the tournament at 3-under 213.

"The last couple years it's been a course where they've set it up a little easier, and I think last year it took 20-under to win it, which is a really low score," Goble said. "You have to be on all facets of your game to shoot 20-under par. We've played okay the last couple years, but nothing that low."

Baylor's lineup for the Alamo Invitational features senior Hayley Davis, junior Laura Lonardi, freshman Giovana Maymon, sophomore Hadas Libman and sophomore Louise Gateau-Chovelon.

"Giovana has actually played this course quite a bit because the Mexican National Team coach used to be the head pro there," added Goble. "I think they feel comfortable there. It's a good tournament for us because it's just a little drive down the road. It's also going to be one of the regional sites in the spring, so to get a look at the golf course where we could possibly be playing at regionals is a good thing."
