8/9 BAYLOR 99, MIDWESTERN STATE 56
FERRELL CENTER ? WACO, TEXAS
NOV. 4, 2014 ? ATTENDANCE: 5,745
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On if she got what she wanted out of the game:
"Absolutely. You know we played just the eight players and as you sit and watch the flow of the game you don't realize you had double figures and Niya had 15 assists. I thought that we played hard. I didn't think that we played all that intelligent in the first half, because we fouled too much. You got to adjust, and we didn't adjust. I appreciate that they played hard, and we want them to, but we've got to quit fouling. Obviously, you can't put people on the foul line as early as we did."
On the touch fouls being an emphasis:
"It always is when the season starts and then we make adjustments as players and coaches. We got to adjust. It's not anything new that wasn't in place last year, or the last few years. We got to stop fouling. Hand check, you know not to do that. And we will, we'll figure it out."
Sophomore Guard Alexis Prince
On how she felt finally playing again:
"It felt good. I've been waiting for this day for a whole year, so yes, it felt good."
On how her feet felt:
"Oh no, I feel good. Like, 100 percent."
On coming back from her injuries:
"It was tough, but I never got down. (I) Just kept rehabbing and being positive. The trainers and rehab staff helped me a lot."
Sophomore Post Khadijiah Cave
On her confidence:
"I just started getting used to being on the floor more and learning how to play with each teammate. And over time, I just felt comfortable on the floor day after day, game after game."
Junior Guard Niya Johnson
On her 15 assists:
"I didn't even know I had that many assists. I was just going with the flow and getting my teammates involved, which I was very proud of the way we produced out there and played aggressive."
Midwestern State Head Coach Noel Johnson
On the game:
"Going into this game, No. 1 it is about us. I know we are playing the No. 8 team in the nation and No. 2 in the Big 12. It is about us getting better and finding out who we are. Our scout was minimal. It was about what we were going to do and how we were going to execute. I felt like the first half we lagged on what we were doing, because we started worrying about the scoreboard. The second half, I felt like we had a better half and we really worked on some things and got better."
On if she looks at the scoreboard in a game like this:
"At a certain point, you don't because you want to continue to work on who you are and what you do. The bottom line is you know you are getting beat, but we know what we are going up against. We tried to block out as much as we could and they are just bigger and stronger."
On Dianna Jones and Shatoia Gober:
"I thought they were great. This is one of the reasons why we wanted to do this game and Coach Mulkey was so generous to give us an opportunity to bring these two back home. She was so classy with this game and what they did before the game and how she acted at the end of the game."
On Baylor:
"Great team. (Kristy) Wallace was a great addition. She has a lot of moxy about her and is pretty much money from the three point line no matter where she stands. She is a great driver and understands the game."
Guard Dianna Jones
On the pregame activities:
"I was like `what is going on?' Coach told me to go and I said `Where am I going?' and then I saw Coach Mulkey. It was sweet and nice of her, but that is how Mulkey is."
Guard Shatoia Gober
On the game:
"It felt great to be home playing in front of the crowd. It is always great to play a nationally-ranked team and I felt like we got better. We are going to get better."
On playing against a team like Baylor:
"I was focused on contributing to my team and having fun and just not focusing on them."
