WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team is headed north on I-35 for the 2014 Dallas Athletic Club Invitational, which begins Friday and is hosted by SMU.

The three-day, 54-hole event is held at the par-72, 6,264-yard Dallas Athletic Club. The 16-team field includes Baylor, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Kent State, LSU, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Purdue, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech, UTSA and Wake Forest.

Baylor, which is ranked No. 51 in the latest GolfStat rankings, will be competing in the tournament for the first time in program history.

"This is a new event for us and a new golf course for us," head coach Jay Goble said. "It's going to be a new experience for us all."

The Lady Bears' lineup for the tournament includes junior Hayley Davis, freshman Louise Gateau-Chovelon, sophomore Laura Lonardi and freshmen Maggie Beth Byers and Hadas Libman. Junior Emma Carberry will compete as an individual.

Three teams in the 16-team field are ranked in the top 25 nationally: No. 14 Oklahoma State, No. 19 Wake Forest and No. 20 LSU. The tournament is Baylor's last before heading to the Big 12 Championship, which runs April 25-27 in Austin, Texas. The DAC Invitational features six Big 12 teams.

"We can't do anything except control our game, but there's going to be some good teams there and some good competition," Goble said. "If we can go out there and have a good week, we should be able to move up in the rankings."

Tee times begin at 8 a.m. CT on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Baylor players will begin Friday's round on the 10th tee, with Libman teeing off at 8:45 a.m. Byers, Lonardi, Gateau-Chovelon and Davis will follow in nine-minute intervals, respectively, and Carberry is scheduled to start from the first tee at 9:30 a.m.
