Sept. 13, 2014 WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team is headed to Charleston, S.C., to open the 2014-15 season at the 12th-annual Cougar Classic, hosted by College of Charleston.
The three-day, 54-hole event, runs Sunday through Tuesday and is held at the par-72, 6,204-yard Yeamans Hall Golf Club. The 24-team field includes Arkansas, Baylor, UCF, Charleston Southern, Clemson, College of Charleston, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Carolina, NC State, North Carolina-Greensboro, Penn State, Tennessee, UCLA, Virginia, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.
Baylor is competing in the tournament for second time in program history. Last year, the Lady Bears finished fifth as a team overall, and Hayley Davis finished in a tie for fifth place individually.
"We are very happy and eager to get our season started at Yeamans Hall this week," head coach Jay Goble said. "Yeamans is a classic Seth Raynor course that is very fun to play. Couple that with the outstanding field, and we are planning for a great week."
Baylor's lineup for the Cougar Classic features senior Hayley Davis, sophomore Maggie Beth Byers, sophomore Hadas Libman, freshman Giovana Maymon and junior Natalia Perez.
Baylor players will tee off from the 10th hole in Sunday's first round, with Natalia Perez taking the first tee time at 7 a.m. CT. She'll be followed in 10-minute intervals by Maymon, Libman, Byers and Davis, respectively.
