WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team is headed to Tarzana, Calif., for the sixth-annual Bruin Wave Invitational, hosted by Pepperdine University and UCLA.

The two-day, 54-hole event, which begins, will be played at the par-72, 6,173-yard El Caballero Country Club. The 15-team field includes No. 30 Baylor, No. 38 California, Georgia, Long Beach State, New Mexico, No. 15 Oklahoma State, Oregon State, No. 23 Pepperdine, No. 27 San Diego State, San Francisco, No. 13 Stanford, No. 3 Washington, Washington State and No. 5 UCLA.

"We definitely have a lot more confidence going in this week, but it's been a hard week in that the weather has been so bad that we haven't had a chance to play much golf," head coach Jay Goble said. "Our practice round on Sunday is going to be really important because it's basically going to be the first time we've played 18 holes in one day in a week."

Baylor, which is ranked No. 30 in the latest GolfStat rankings, is competing in the tournament for first time in program history.

Baylor's lineup for the Bruin-Wave Invitational features senior Hayley Davis, freshman Giovana Maymon, freshman Dylan Kim, junior Laura Lonardi and sophomore Maggie Beth Byers.

"We're taking a very similar lineup to California, and I don't see any reason we can't win out there if we do similar things to what we did last time," Goble said. "We're not going to be thinking about scores or scoreboards or what other people are doing. We're getting the girls to control what they can control by staying in the moment."

Five of the 15 teams are ranked in the top 25, including No. 3 Washington, No. 5 UCLA, No. 13 Stanford, No. 15 Oklahoma State and No. 23 Pepperdine.

Baylor players will tee off in a shotgun start at 10 a.m. CT in Monday's first round. Lonardi and Kim will tee off from No. 1, Byers from No. 2, and Maymon and Davis from No. 18.

"I think our team is in very good shape physically," Goble said. "That's the thing about playing 36 holes - it's a little bit more of an endurance race. If you can still make good swings 10 hours into your game because you're in good shape, then you can play better."
