WACO, Texas - The No. 24-ranked Baylor women's golf team is headed to Tempe, Ariz., to compete in the 44th annual Ping ASU Invitational, hosted by Arizona State University. Baylor is making its first-ever appearance at the tournament.

The three-day, 54-hole event, which runs Friday through Sunday, is held at the par-72, 6,223-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course. The 15-team field includes Alabama, Arizona (No. 8), Arizona State (No. 25), Arkansas (No. 7), Baylor, Duke (No. 5), Oklahoma, San Diego State (No. 21), South Carolina (No. 4), Southern California (No. 1), Stanford (No. 17), Texas, UCLA (No. 3), UNLV (No. 16), and Washington (No.2).

"The girls are playing really well right now," head coach Jay Goble said. "They played well this weekend down in San Antonio, and obviously we had some good wins against some good schools in Georgia. I think we're doing very well to prepare for postseason, they're in a very confident place right now, and they're going to be ready to go this weekend."

Baylor's lineup for the Ping ASU Invitational features senior Hayley Davis, junior Laura Lonardi, freshman Lauren Whyte, freshman Giovana Maymon and freshman Dylan Kim. Sophomore Louise Gateau-Chovelon will enter the tournament as an individual.

"They're excited about preparing for Big 12s," Goble said. "They really want to go have a successful end to their year. I know that Hayley Davis in particular wants to have a very successful end to her career here at Baylor. She's highly motivated to finish her college career on a high note, and I think she's going to help pull everyone else along with her."

Eleven teams in the 15-team field are ranked in the top 25, including No. 1 Southern California, No. 2 Washington, No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 South Carolina, No. 5 Duke, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 8 Arizona, No. 16 UNLV, No. 17 Stanford, No. 21 San Diego State and No. 25 Arizona State. Baylor is currently ranked No. 27, according to the latest Golfstat rankings.

"I really just want the girls competing this time of year," Goble said. "I think it's important to keep going out there keep playing in pressure situations, and to figure out how to score your best. That's what we're trying to do."

Baylor players will begin the first round from the 10th tee in groupings with players from UCLA and Alabama. Kim is up first at 11:21 a.m. CT, followed in nine-minute intervals by Maymon, Whyte, Lonardi and Davis, respectively. Gateau-Chovelon tees off on No. 10 at 10:27 a.m.
