Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On the activity in the gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"You don't play the score. It's very obvious that there's going to be teams in non-conference that we may be more talented than, but you've got to get better. We're coming off of a very hard to swallow loss after watching the film for three hours against UConn and just saw glaring things that we control and we've got to get better. You got to come into this game and not ever look at the scoreboard. I thought two things that were good that we got out of this game: conditioning, and that's why I press from start to finish, this is two hours that we have to play basketball and get in shape, and the second thing is Mississippi Valley played the zone and that's what we're going to see. We're going to see lots and lots of zones."
On the pressà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It was affective, obviously. It was more of get better and who could help me in the closer, tighter games that I can see out here in a press today. Who can help me in penetrating a zone and getting us good looks. Those were little things that I challenge them to do in the timeouts. Don't look at the scoreboard. Just play and go do what I'm asking you to do.
On Nina Davis being the sixth player in program history to score 2,000 pointsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Nina has been a great ambassador for our program. She's an All-American. She quietly does her work and plays a role from the time she gotten here of being what you want every player to be and that is somebody who represents this school, this program, and her own family very well. So I hope she's still got a few points left in her."
Nina Davis
On coming back after the loss against UConnà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I was very motivated. But it's really not about me, it's about the team. The UConn loss, it was a tough one to swallow. But we can't think about the past, we can't dread on what happened. It's over and done with and it's still early in the season. So we just wanted to come out today and play more aggressive, play with more energy and just help everyone to get a flow going."
On getting to 2,000 career pointsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It's an honor. It's definitely a blessing, of course, but it doesn't really mean much if I don't win a championship this year or we don't get to the final four. It's a great milestone, but I want more."
Natalie Chou
On preparing for UConn as a freshmanà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Like all of us freshman it was our first big college game, so we were all really excited. Both games were really good experiences for all of us."
Mississippi Valley State University Head Coach Jessica Hern
On takeaways from the gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"They're ranking is legit, let's say that. For us, we are a small mid-major institution. Our kids need to play these kind of games in order to flat out get better. We will not see a bigger team, we won't see a stronger team all year long, and in my eyes, in our conference. I still bet on us when it's all said and done. I think we did some really good things tonight. I'm glad we got through it. We're going to be better going into our next game, but obviously hat's off, they played a phenomenal game tonight."
On Baylor's sizeà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"They are very long, extremely athletic, and I think that they will definitely cause problems when it comes to conference play."
On Baylor's press and how difficult it was to get through ità ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Going into midway in the third and the entire fourth all of my upperclassmen fouled out. So I had five freshmen on the floor and I'm biting every nail I had left. Please get it over half court. But this is when freshmen have to grow up, these are the games you l live for."
