Bears shot 5-over after the turn after shooting 10-over on front-9

AUSTIN, Texas – Baylor women's golf is in sixth place after shooting 15-over-par 303 in Friday's first round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at University of Texas Golf Club.
No. 28-ranked Baylor (+15) trails only No. 6 Texas (+3), No. 16 Kent State (+6), No. 7 Florida (+7), No. 49 SMU (+12) and No. 1 Alabama (+14). The Bears are in front of seven teams, including No. 38 Texas Tech (+18), No. 41 Texas A&M (+20), Tulane (+22), No. 40 Colorado (+23), Texas State (+29), New Mexico (+29) and North Texas (+30).
BU got off to a slow start and the Bears' four counting scores were a combined 10-over at the turn, but they strung together pars on the back-9 and combined to shoot 5-over coming in. Diane Baillieux made one birdie and eight pars on the back-9 to finish the day in a tie for 14th place at 2-over 74, while Gurleen Kaur played the back-9 at even-par with two birdies, two bogeys and five pars on her way to a tie for eighth place at 1-over 73.
Laila Hrindova is tied for 35th place after a 5-over 77, and Maria Vesga posted Baylor's final counting scoring with a 7-over 79, which is tied for 50th place. Amelia McKee is tied for 63rd place at 10-over 82. Both Jordan Shackelford and Fiona Liddell are competing as individuals. Shackelford is tied for 20th place after shooting 3-over 75, while Liddell is tied for 50th place at 7-over 79.
HIGHLIGHTS
1-over – Baylor's seven players in the tournament combined to shoot 1-over par across the final six holes after carding a combined 34-over across the first 12 holes. The Bears made four birdies on holes Nos. 13-18 after making five birdies on holes Nos. 1-12.

Baylor is paired with SMU and Alabama for Saturday's second round. McKee tees off first at 8:45 a.m. CT, and she'll be followed in nine-minute intervals by Vesga, Hrindova, Baillieux and Kaur, respectively.
