Women's Golf Places Fifth at Liz Murphey Classic

ATHENS, Ga. -- Baylor women's golf finished in fifth place after shooting 4-over-par 288 in Saturday's final round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. The Bears finished the 54-hole tournament at the UGA Golf Course with a score of 16-over-par 880.
No. 42 Baylor (+16) earned wins over five top-50 ranked teams, including No. 45 Kennesaw State (+19), No. 28 Louisville (+26), No. 37 Ole Miss (+31), No. 13 Florida (+34) and No. 49 Denver (+51). BU also defeated Kansas (+79) and NJCAA No. 1-ranked Dayton State (+25).
The four teams that finished ahead of Baylor were all either top-five ranked or playing on their home course. The Bears placed behind No. 2 Alabama (-15), No. 3 Arkansas (+1), No. 5 Duke (+1) and tournament-host No. 44 Georgia (+7).
Junior Maria Vesga shot 1-over 73 on Saturday to finish tied for ninth place at 1-under 215. It was Vesga's best finish of the season and her third career top-10. Freshman Diane Baillieux shot a final round of 2-under 70 to finish tied for 14th place at 2-over 218. It was Baillieux's third top-20 finish in her last five tournaments.
Freshman Gurleen Kaur carded a 1-over 73 on Saturday and finished tied for 31st place at 9-over 225, and sophomore Fiona Liddell posted the team's final counting score on Saturday with a 4-over 76 to finish tied for 33rd place at 10-over 226. Senior Amy Lee also tied for 33rd place at 10-over 226 after a final round of 5-over 77, and senior Giovana Maymon, who competed as an individual, shot 8-over 80 to tie for 65th place at 26-over 242.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Baylor finished second in the 12-team field in par-5 scoring at 13-under 4.78.
- BU was fifth in par-4 scoring at 24-over 4.16 and eighth in par-3 scoring at 19-over 3.32.
- Baylor players made three eagles during the tournament, tied for the most with Dayton State.
- BU finished fifth with 158 pars and sixth with 39 birdies.
- Maria Vesga tied for seventh in par-4 scoring at even-par 4.00, tied for 14th in par-5 scoring at 3-under 4.75 and tied for 17th in par-3 scoring at 2-over 3.17.
- Vesga tied for fourth with 37 pars and tied for 19th with nine birdies.
- Diane Baillieux tied for fifth in par-5 scoring at 5-under 4.58 and tied for 15th in par-4 scoring at 2-over 4.07. She also tied for the tournament lead with two eagles.
- Fiona Liddell tied for 17th in par-3 scoring at 2-over 3.17 and tied for 15th with 34 pars.
- Gurleen Kaur tied for ninth in par-5 scoring at 4-under 4.67.
- Amy Lee tied for 14th in par-5 scoring at 3-under 4.75.
STAT OF THE DAY
4-under -- Baylor players posted a combined score of 4-under on the par-5 ninth hole. Amy Lee made an eagle, while Maria Vesga and Gurleen Kaur made birdies and Fiona Liddell and Diane Baillieux carded pars.
