Bears head to Marshall, Texas for Wednesday’s meet
WACO, Texas – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling returns to the mats on Wednesday, this time on the road at East Texas Baptist, with the meet set to start at 6 p.m. in Marshall, Texas at Ornelas Gym.
The Bears have faced the Tigers twice before, winning both matchups. The first was in the 2019 season, where BU won 282.18 - 161.95, while the second came last season in April, winning 275.200 - 209.150. Both meets took place in Marshall as well.
ETBU started its season with Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, falling to UMHB 254.140 – 195.200.
Last time out, the Bears won their season and home opener against UMHB, 277.930 – 251.305, at the Ferrell Center. They debuted several never-before-competed components in the opener, leading to freshman Jordan Gruendler earning NCATA Specialist of the Week for her performance with Bayley Humphrey as her base. The pair executed a one-arm handstand in six-element acro, also as a top in heat three of the pyramid.
In addition, junior Emily Tobin was named Athlete of the Week for her overall prowess, competing in 10 heats and the team event, while freshman Aliyah Kaloostian was named Honorable Mention Freshman of the Week, highlighted by her 9.825 performance in the open tumbling pass.
Tobin was a part of seven heats that scored a 9.7 or higher throughout the meet. Her meet performance was highlighted by her execution in the compulsory toss as a top (scored 9.95), synchronized pyramid (scored 9.90), acro five-element (scored 9.85) and inversion pyramid (scored 9.85). She also competed as a tumbler in the quad pass and team event.
