Friday marks Baylor’s fifth ranked matchup of the season
WACO, Texas – No. 15 Baylor Volleyball closes its three-match homestand with a top-25 tilt against No. 18 Kansas on Friday night at the Ferrell Center.
Meeting for the 60th time, Kansas makes its first trip to Waco since November of 2022, when the Bears blanked the Jayhawks 3-0. BU enters Friday night riding a five-match home winning streak against KU.
First serve comes less than 48 hours after the Bears dispatched a feisty Houston team with a 3-0 sweep on Wednesday night. Facing one of the Big 12's preseason favorites in Kansas, Baylor head coach Ryan McGuyre is happy to have this one in front of the home fans at Ferrell.
"We had to go to Kansas the last two years, so it'll be good to have them at home," he said. "We really need as many fans as possible, because I think the fans impact the match. We've got a lot of work to do in a short amount of time, but I love how our team has approached every practice this year, so I think that benefits us. So even though it's one day of prep, I'm really hopeful we've been preparing for this match since the summer."
Last time out, BU got big-time performances from its freshmen as Ksenia Rakhmanchik led all players with a career-high 16 kills on 39 swings to pace the Baylor offense. Bailey Warren added 10 kills and a career-best four service aces, the first of her collegiate career, while senior middle blocker Gabrielle Essix also reached double figures with 10 kills.
Baylor is 4-0 in Big 12 play for the first time since 2019, behind a strong showing from Manuela Bibinbe and her team-leading 134 kills and 154 points. Big 12 Rookie of the Week, Morgan Madison, has anchored the back row with a staggering 3.72 digs per set.
Lincoln Rose and Katie Smith will have the call on ESPN+, beginning at 7 p.m. CT. Live stats are available at BaylorBears.com/stats.
