Bear duo ends fall season with 6-3 record, falls to No. 2 Wake Forest pair
ORLANDO, Fla. – Baylor men's tennis' Connor Van Schalkwyk and Zsombor Velcz finish their fall season in the round of 16 of the NCAA doubles competition, falling to Wake Forest's No. 2 duo at the UTSA National Campus on Thursday afternoon, 7-6(5), 6-2.
THE RUNDOWN
BU faced off against Wake Forest's No. 2 Andrew Delgado and DK Suresh on Court 10. The Demon Deacons started fast, starting up 3-1. However, the green and gold responded, winning the next three out of four games to tie the set at four apiece. The pairs each traded a game to tie the set 5-5.
Wake Forest won the next game; however, with Van Schalkwyk serving, the Bears claimed the following game to force a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, both duos traded points, but it was the Demon Deacons who won the tiebreaker and set 7-6 (5).
In the second set, BU would win the first game, but Wake Forest responded by winning the next three games. Delgado and Suresh won the following three out of four games to win the set and match, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
