WACO, Texas – No. 23 Baylor volleyball continues its homestand on Sunday afternoon, hosting Utah (11-12, 3-9 Big 12) at 3 p.m. inside the Ferrell Center.
The Bears (13-8, 8-5 Big 12) look to build on Friday's sweep of West Virginia as they enter the final stretch of conference play looking to build momentum heading into the postseason.
Baylor extended its dominance over the West Virginia with a 3-0 win, marking its 19th straight victory in the series and 16th consecutive set win. The Bears improved to 9-1 at home and have now won all 10 opening sets in the Ferrell Center this season. Under head coach Ryan McGuyre, Baylor owns a 196–23 record when taking the first set and is 13–1 this season when hitting a higher percentage than its opponent.
The Bears' balanced attack has been led by freshman standout Ksenia Rakhmanchik, who now ranks fourth in program history for kills by a freshman, needing just nine to tie Allie Sczech for third-most. In Friday's win, middle blocker Gabbi Essix delivered 11 kills on .667 hitting, the second-highest percentage by a Baylor player with double-digit kills this season.
The Utes comes to Waco seeking to rebound after dropping a 3-1 decision against TCU in Fort Worth on Friday night. Utah is led by Preseason All-Big 12 honoree, Kamryn Gibadlo, who ranks among the top 10 in the league in kills per set (4.19).
Sunday's matchup marks just the second meeting between the programs after Utah claimed a 3-0 win in Salt Lake City last season.
