Sunday is the first of two nationally-televised matches this season for BU
WACO, Texas – No. 20 Baylor volleyball carries its four-match win streak into Gainesville for a nationally televised showdown against No. 11 Florida on Sunday at 12 p.m.
The Bears enter with a two-match win streak over the Gators, including a 3-0 sweep in Gainesville in 2021. BU is in search of its first win over a ranked opponent this season and its first road victory over a ranked team since sweeping No. 22 Rice in 2023.
Harley Kreck is coming off a career day against Rice, notching a team-high 20 assists and 10 digs for her career-first double-double. The redshirt sophomore likes the way this team is continuing to come together and play for each other early in the season.
"I honestly think this team is just super selfless," she said. "I've been on a lot of teams, but from a genuine place in everyone's heart, I feel like everyone truly wants the best for each other and the best for the team. Everyone is willing to pour in for whatever role they need to, which has been really cool to see."
Baylor's offense is led by Manuela Bibinbe, who paces the Bears with 3.08 kills per set, including a season-high 17 kills in Baylor's last road contest at LSU. Freshman Morgan Madison continues to impress, anchoring the defense, averaging 3.83 digs per set, including a season-best 26 against No. 10 SMU.
Baylor graduate transfer Gabbi Essix returns to Gainesville, where she spent four seasons with the Gators before joining the Bears this summer. Essix has already made an impact, leading the team with 1.38 blocks per set.
Sunday's match marks the first leg of Baylor's "Sunshine Swing," which continues Tuesday at UCF in the Bears' Big 12 opener. Sunday's action begins at 12 p.m. CT from inside the O'Connell Center, with Sam Gore and Missy Whittemore on the call for ESPN2.
