WACO, Texas – Baylor soccer closed its nonconference schedule Sunday night at Betty Lou Mays Field, beating Abilene Christian 2-0 to stay unbeaten in the 2025 campaign.
The Bears' 5-0-2 record marks just the second time the program has gone through nonconference play without a loss. The only other time came in the inaugural season, when Randy Waldrum's 1996 squad debuted with a 10-0 nonconference mark.
Baylor smothered ACU on Sunday, holding a 30-6 shot advantage with the most attempts since firing 38 in a 2017 season opener against Louisiana. The Wildcats didn't register a serious chance until the 71st minute, when Azul Alvarez made a diving save to preserve her fifth shutout of the year.
Tyler Isgrig scored her third and fourth consecutive goals over the last two matches, posting back-to-back braces for the first time in her career and the fifth overall.
Michelle Lenard is off to her best start at Baylor, and her career's strongest opening since an eight-match win streak at Dallas Baptist in 2020 that included a victory at LSU.
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor struck first in the sixth minute on a penalty kick after Abilene Christian's Hannah Vetromile committed a foul in the box, setting up Isgrig for her third straight goal.
Isgrig locked in her second consecutive brace in the 35th minute, finishing off a sequence assisted by Kai Hayes and Aryanna Jimison.

On her team's strong start this season…
"We've been working at this for three, now going on four, years. Commitment to the game model, committed to the style of play, development within our program. Players have gotten better every year, turned into great leaders. We've got a lot of veterans on the field, so I'm super proud of them. They've worked really hard for this. We're playing at a really high level overall over the course of the last seven games, so I'm really happy with what we've done so far, and we want to carry that over into conference play."
On the strengths shown in the first seven matches…
"We've shown the ability to control the game. We've shown the ability to score goals. We've shown the ability to defend well, and we've shown some resilience when we did go down a couple of games early in the season by a goal early in the match. So we've checked all the boxes we wanted to check going into conference play. We've played against teams that possess the ball. We've played against teams that play more direct. We've played against really physical teams. Today, a team in a low block who's really organized behind the ball. So our schedule was really good to prepare us. We've seen everything. I don't think there's anyone in the conference that has anything we haven't seen, so we feel completely ready to go compete for a Big 12 Championship."
