WACO, Texas – Powered by a 13-point, 18-rebound night from Darianna Littlepage-Buggs and a 22-point surge from Taliah Scott, No. 14 Baylor women's basketball blasted past UCF, 73-48, on Wednesday evening at Foster Pavilion.
With the win, Baylor improved to 18 victories on the season, stretching its streak to seven straight games to sit at a Big 12-best 7-1.
UCF opened the scoring with a jumper, but Scott answered to spark a 7-0 Baylor run that forced a four-minute scoring drought from the Knights, bogged down by four turnovers. After UCF briefly snapped the run, the Bears responded with another 7-0 surge highlighted by baskets from Littlepage-Buggs, Kiersten Johnson and Scott.
The Knights chipped away at the early lead and sent the Bears into the second quarter ahead 16-13.
Both teams opened the second quarter scoreless for the first two minutes before Littlepage-Buggs broke the silence with her third 3-pointer of the season. Scott added a jumper and another 3-pointer to fuel an 8-0 Baylor run, which was snapped only by a UCF free throw.
A brief Baylor slump allowed UCF to go 6-0, back-to-back 3-pointers from Jana Van Gytenbeek and Bella Fontleroy put BU back in control. The Bears totaled 10 steals in the first half, their most before halftime this season, helping Baylor carry a 34-23 lead into the break.
Fontleroy ignited the scoring for Baylor in the third with a pair of 3-pointers while the Bears held UCF without a field goal for the first 4:32, with the Knights' only points coming from the free-throw line.
Baylor ended the third stanza with a 51-36 advantage as Scott buried her fourth 3-pointer of the night and Van Gytenbeek added a pair at the rim.
The Knights opened the fourth quarter with an and-one, but Yuting Deng answered immediately with a corner 3, and Kyla Abraham followed with back-to-back layups to energize the Foster Pavilion crowd.
The Bears put the game out of reach by stretching the lead to 23 behind a 3-pointer and layup from Littlepage-Buggs, marking her second career multi-3 game. K. Johnson also connected from deep, becoming one of six Bears to hit a 3 on the night.
Ines Goryanova made her Foster Pavilion debut after logging her first collegiate minutes on the road in Utah. She added an exclamation point with her first career points on a layup with just over a minute left.
The Bears forced a season-high 24 turnovers and converted them into 24 points, their most this season and one better than the 23 they scored off turnovers against Southeastern Louisiana.
Baylor returns to Foster Pavilion to continue its two-game home stretch on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT against Houston. The matchup will air on ESPN+ and the Baylor Sports Media Network.
