ORLANDO, Fla. – Hoping to build on a strong fall semester that included five-consecutive top-five finishes, the 21st-ranked Baylor women's golf team will play in the UCF Challenge presented by PDI that begins Sunday at Eagle Creek Country Club.
"Excited to start our spring in Orlando at UCF at the same tournament that we won to start the spring last year," Goble said of winning last year's tournament with a 30-under 834 total, the second-lowest score relative to par in program history.
"This is a great place to knock off the competitive rust, and we should have some weather that is slightly better than Waco this time of year."
Led by junior transfer Yurang Li from Illinois, the Bears won the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Hawaii for the third time in five years and were runners-up at the Folds of Honor Collegiate and The Bear Brawl that Baylor hosted at Ridgewood Country Club. Li has a 71.23-stroke average and has won back-to-back medalist honors after a runner-up finish at Prairie Dunes.
"We are looking forward to her continuing to play her game, one shot at a time," Goble said of Li, one of 25 players named to the Annika Award watch list in the fall. "And if she does a good job of that, she will be tough to beat."
Li heads the Bears' lineup for the three-day, 54-hole tournament, followed by senior Silje Ohma, freshman Amelia Wan, sophomore Malena Castro and junior transfer Charlotte Brook from Lynn University. Also making the trip and playing as individuals are senior Bridget Boczar and first-semester freshman Paloma Ibarra Ambia from Mexico.
Joining Baylor and 12th-ranked UCF in the 16-team tournament are seventh-ranked Auburn, No. 18 Mississippi State and No. 24 Kent Stage, along with ACU, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, Nebraska, North Florida, Northern Iowa, Old Dominion, Penn State, South Alabama and South Florida.
Sunday's tee times start at 6:30 a.m. CT, with Brook in the first group off the No. 1 tee. Live scoring is available at UCF Challenge.
