
No. 15 WBB Dominates Second Quarter to Pull Away from Arizona, 74-60

WACO, Texas – No. 15 Baylor women's basketball used a dominant second quarter to pull away from Arizona, 74-60, on Saturday night at Foster Pavilion, improving to 23-6 overall and 12-4 in conference play.
Arizona (11-16, 2-14) grabbed early momentum as the teams traded baskets to open the game. Four quick points from Darianna Littlepage-Buggs helped Baylor match the Wildcats, but four early turnovers fueled a 6-0 Arizona run. The Wildcats later closed the quarter on a separate 7-0 burst and carried a 22-15 lead into the first break.
Baylor flipped the game in the second quarter with its defense, holding Arizona to 4-of-17 shooting (23.5%) and outscoring the Wildcats 23-8 in the period to take a 38-30 halftime lead.
Taliah Scott sparked the surge, scoring all 10 of her first-half points in the quarter, including a 3-pointer and five free throws. Yuting Deng gave Baylor its first lead since the opening minutes with a block on the defensive end and a 3-pointer back on the offensive end. Marcayla Johnson buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer, her first of conference play, to send the Bears into the locker room up eight.
The Bears continued to shut down the Wildcats defensively after halftime, limiting Arizona to one field goal over the first five minutes of the third quarter. Marcayla Johnson pushed the margin to 18, Baylor's largest lead of the night, with a jumper in the paint.
Arizona opened the fourth with six quick points to pull within single digits, but Kiersten Johnson's putback halted the run. From there, the teams traded baskets down the stretch as Baylor maintained control.
Scott finished with a game-high 22 points, going 11-for-11 at the free-throw line while adding four assists. Marcayla Johnson scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, marking her third career game in double figures. Deng contributed eight points, and Jana Van Gytenbeek added six points and a team-high eight assists.
Littlepage-Buggs scored 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting, recording her 20th double-figure scoring game of the season. Bella Fontleroy added six points and pulled down 10 rebounds for her second double-digit rebounding performance of the year.
Arizona was led by Daniah Trammell with 11 points and Noelani Cornfield with 11.
Baylor closes out its regular-season home schedule against Kansas State on Monday at 6 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN2 and the Baylor Sports Media Network, with tickets still available through the Baylor athletics ticket office.
