
MBB Drops Back-And-Forth Battle at No. 7 Iowa State, 72-69

Carr leads Bears with 24 points in Ames
AMES, Iowa – Baylor men's basketball took on No. 7 Iowa State in a packed James H. Hilton Coliseum with eight lead changes throughout the game but came up just short in a 72-69 loss on Saturday afternoon.
Baylor (13-10, 3-8 Big 12) erased a double-digit second-half deficit and had a chance to tie or take the lead in the closing seconds, but No. 7 Iowa State (21-2, 8-2 Big 12) held on after Baylor's last look fell off the rim.
Cameron Carr led all scorers with 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including five 3-pointers, while Tounde Yessoufou added 17 points and six rebounds. Obi Agbim chipped in 15 points, and Caden Powell was perfect from the floor (4-for-4) for eight points.
Baylor trailed by as many as 15 midway through the second half before mounting its rally, fueled by second-chance points and perimeter shooting. The Bears finished with a 21-9 edge in second-chance points and knocked down 11 triples, trimming a 72-58 gap inside the final minute. Yessoufou's corner 3 with one second remaining cut it to three, but Iowa State ran out the clock after the ensuing timeout.
Iowa State was led by Milan Momcilovic's 21 points and Joshua Jefferson's 15, while Tamin Lipsey added 14 points and nine rebounds. The Cyclones shot 50 percent from the field and controlled the glass, 37-25, to withstand Baylor's late push
THE RUNDOWN
After Iowa State took an early 6-0 lead, Carr and Yessoufou both drove to the basket to put the Bears on the board. An Isaac Williams IV three from deep, assisted by Carr, put BU trailing by just one at the first media timeout on the day.
A steal turned into a driving layup by Michael Rataj had the Bears tied at nine-all. ISU's Momcilovic drew up 10 of the Cylcones 19 points, but two back-to-back threes by Carr from deep tied the game back up once more.
Powell with a jumper gave Baylor its first lead of the game, 21-19, but ISU responded just as quick from deep. The Bears didn't give up quick though and fought back with trios from Carr and Yessoufou to take a 27-24 lead at the under-eight media timeout.
The Cyclones found a way to a tie it back up but Baylor kept chipping away with quick responses from Carr with the help of a five-for-six from the field stat line. On the defensive end, BU held ISU to seven straight missed buckets.
Back-to-back threes by ISU three's gave the Cyclones the lead heading into the half, 37-33.
Out of the half, the Cyclones went to the basket first, but the Bears put offensive efficiency to work with a steal turned to a dunk by Agbim and Carr's fourth three of the day to keep it a one-possession game.
