Keeper returns for fifth year after All-Region campaign in 2025
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Baylor soccer's Azul Alvarez was named one of United Soccer Coaches' Goalkeepers to Watch on its 2026 list, released ahead of the start of the regular season.
Alvarez, who is entering her fifth year of collegiate soccer, earned All-Midwest Region honors in 2025 after recording 12 shutouts and helping lead Baylor to the Big 12 semifinals and the NCAA Tournament Round of 16.
A two-time Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week and All-Big 12 First Team selection in 2025, Alvarez played all but 22 minutes of the Bears' historic campaign. She recorded 97 saves, the ninth most in program history, while logging 2,082 minutes, the fourth most by a Baylor goalkeeper in a season. Her .820 save percentage ranks among the program's top 10 single-season marks.
Alvarez is one of two Big 12 goalkeepers on the list, joining Kansas' Sophia Dawe. Baylor scored three goals against Dawe in a 3-0 victory last September.
The positional player lists are compiled and released by the Division I All-America Committees to promote college soccer ahead of the regular season. The lists feature United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and All-Region selections from 2025 who are scheduled to return for the 2026 season.
Baylor opens the 2026 season with an exhibition match at SMU on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. in Dallas before officially beginning the regular season on the road against SEC foe Arkansas on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
