Lambert Tabbed Preseason Big 12 Newcomer of Year

WACO, Texas - Baylor's Sheila Lambert has been tabbed preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year by Big 12 women's basketball coaches.
Lambert, a 5-7 junior guard from Seattle, Wash., transferred to Baylor from Grayson County College (TX) where she averaged 23.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game as a sophomore. Lambert was a two-time first-team NJCAA All-American and two-time NJCAA Region 5 Player of the Year. In addition, she earned Northern Texas Conference MVP honors twice. In her two years at GCC, Lambert led the squad to a 68-2 record and the team garnered a third place national finish last season.
"I'm really happy for Sheila, it's a nice honor," Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson said "The award brings recognition to our program but that's all it brings. We haven't won a game yet," .
The Lady Bears finished the Big 12 last season with a 2-14 conference record and a 12th place finish. This year the coaches picked Baylor to finish 10th.
Iowa State was picked to win the 2000-2001 Big 12 championship, Iowa State's Angie Welle was chosen as preseason Big 12 Player of the Year and Laurie Koehn of Kansas State was honored as preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year.
