Baylor sophomore forward Kevin Rogers hit 7-of-10 from the field, which included several highlight reel dunks, to lead five players in double figures with 18 points and grabbed six rebounds in an 89-64 victory over Texas State in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Ferrell Center.

"We just focused on getting stops, that's the key thing we have to do during the season if we want to be a good team - we have to learn how to stop people," Rogers said. "Everybody knows how to score, but for us to be an elite team, we have to get stops and buckle down on defense."

Curtis Jerrells added 17 points and a team-high six assists, while Henry Dugat had 15 points, a career-high eight rebounds and five assists for the Bears (6-1). Aaron Bruce chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds, while Tim Bush had 10 points and seven rebounds. Mamadou Diene had a game-high 10 rebounds and added four blocks.

Dylan Moseley led the Bobcats (2-5) with 12 points, while Charles Dotson had 10 points. Brandon Thomas was the team's leading rebounder with seven.

Baylor started the first half with an 18-2 run, including scoring the first 13 points of the game. The Bears took their largest lead of the half at 19, 38-19, on Jerrells' 3-pointer with 3:03 remaining. The two teams each hit a pair of threes in the last two minutes as Baylor took a 45-28 advantage into the locker room.

The Bears shot 57.7 from the field and 41.7 percent from behind the arc in the half, while Texas State hit 32.3 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from behind 3-point range.

Baylor scored the opening basket of the second half, but an 11-2 run by the Bobcats cut the lead to 47-39. The Bears went cold from 3-point range and committed costly turnovers and Brent Holder's three with 11:27 left got Texas State to within seven at 54-47. Over the next five minutes, however, Baylor put the game away by outscoring Texas State 20-7 to take a 74-54 lead.

As the Bears broke down the Bobcats' press, Rogers and Bush benefited with easy scoring opportunities, including three alley-oop dunks by Rogers over the final five minutes. Carl Sims' running hook in the final seconds provided the Bears with their largest lead of the night at 25 and proved to be the final margin.

Baylor shot 56.6 percent from the field for the game, while holding Texas State to 37.5 percent. The Bears outrebounded the Bobcats, 42-33, and outscored them, 26-9 in points off turnovers.

The Bears return to action when they host South Carolina Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
