COLUMBUS, Ind. - After shooting a second-round 329, the Baylor women's golf team fell to 16th place Friday through 36 holes of the NCAA Central Regional at Otter Creek Golf Course.

The entire 24-team field was plagued by 20-30 mile-per-hour winds on the course for the majority of the day. As a result, no team carded a score lower than 304 (16-over par) and Friday's average second-round score was 81.9. USC has taken a four-stroke lead with a 27-over score, while Arizona State is in second at 31-over 607, followed by Oklahoma State (37-over), Oregon (45-over) and Purdue (47-over).

Oklahoma State's Victoria Park and USC's Lizette Salas are tied for the individual lead through 36 holes at 2-over 146. Salas was the only player to shoot under par Friday, carding a 1-under 71.

"We had a chance to make a push up the leaderboard, but we didn't get it done today," Baylor head women's golf coach Sylvia Ferdon said. "Playing in windy conditions, we struggled to consistently put the ball in play."

Senior Hannah Burke entered Friday tied for 11th place, but dropped to a 30th-place tie at 12-over 156 after carding a second-round 82. Sophomore Chelsey Cothran recorded the best score of the day for the Lady Bears with a 4-over 76; the Springdale, Ark., native is tied for 50th at 15-over 159. Lene Hafsten-Morch, Jaclyn Jansen and Melanie White each recorded second-round scores of 85, 86 and 89, respectively.

"I thought Chelsey (Cothran) played well today, but I was a little disappointed for Hannah (Burke)," Ferdon said. "She had a chance to move up and battle for one of those top individual spots, but she fell behind early and couldn't make up any ground."

The final round of the 2010 NCAA Central Regional is scheduled to begin with the first wave of golfers at 7 a.m. CDT Saturday and continue in 11-minute increments. Baylor will begin teeing off from the No. 10 tee at 12:30 p.m. EDT. Live scoring will be available at www.BaylorBears.com.
