FORT COLLINS, Colo. - After jumping out to an early lead, the Baylor women's golf team sits in fourth place through 36 holes Monday at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.

Baylor held a six-stroke lead over Colorado after the first round, but wind conditions factored into the Lady Bears shooting 299 in the afternoon round to finish at 5-over 581. The Lady Bears are six strokes behind host and leader Colorado State (1-under 575). Colorado is in second at 2-over 578, followed by California in third at 3-over 579. Three of Baylor's five golfers are in the top 15 heading into Tuesday's final round.

The Lady Bears opened Monday with a 6-under 282, which tied a school record for the lowest first-round team score. Monday's score matched the Lady Bears' 282 shot at the 2007 Susie Maxwell-Berning Classic. The first-round tally is the second-lowest round in school history, behind only a second-round 277 carded at the 2005 Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.

"We posted good scores to open Monday," head coach Sylvia Ferdon said. "We made some good shots and made it look easy.

"Our second round was a little more difficult because we faced windier conditions," Ferdon said. "We didn't handle some holes very well, but overall I was pleased with our first 36 holes."

Jaclyn Jansen leads all Lady Bears golfers at 1-under 143, good for a 10th-place tie. Jansen fired a first-round 69 - the second-lowest 18-hole round of her career. The Effingham, Ill., native followed it up with a 2-over 74 in the afternoon. Fellow junior Chelsey Cothran carded a career-low tying 70 in the first round before finishing 13th at even-par 144.

Senior Jordan Rhodes established a career-low 18-hole score, firing a first-round 70 Monday. Jordan's first-round tally bested her previous mark of 71 at the 2009 NCAA West Regional. Rhodes finished the day at even-par 144, tying with Cothran for 13th place through 36 holes.

"Jordan (Rhodes) played exceptionally well today," Ferdon said. "She had good ball flight and ball control all day long. She tripped up on a water hole, carding an eight but still managed to turn in one of the top scores in the second round.

"Her scoring was outstanding today," Ferdon said. "It's nice to see that happen after being out of the lineup for a year. I'm very proud of her."

Seniors Lene Hafsten-Morch (6-over 150) and Morgan Chambers (15-over 159) are tied for 40th and 75th, respectively.

The final round of the 2010 Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic will begin with a 9:30 a.m. CDT shotgun start Tuesday at the Ptarmigan Country Club. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
