SORRENTO, Fla. -Freshman Hayley Davis has a one-stroke lead, while the 22nd-ranked Baylor women's golf team is tied for first place through 36 holes Monday at the UCF Challenge.

No. 22 Baylor and No. 3 Auburn were two of only three teams to shoot under-par Monday and are tied for the lead at 7-under 569 through 36 holes. Tulane is in third at even-par 576; No. 47 UCF was the only other team to shoot under-par Monday and is in fourth at 1-over 577. Augusta State rounds out the top five in fifth at 3-over 579.

Davis carded a second-round 71 to take a one-stroke lead over Auburn's Victoria Trapani, who was tied with the England native after 18 holes. Baylor's best individual round came from senior Chelsey Cothran, who shot a career-low-tying 68 and is tied for 13th at 1-over 145.

"Hayley played up and down in the second round but was able to keep it together," first-year head coach Jay Goble said. "She's right there in the hunt to win. I think she's set for a good final round Tuesday."

Cothran and senior Valerie Sternebeck are tied for 13th, while freshman Emma Carberry is tied for 21st and 2-over 146. Carberry shot a career-low 72 in the second round. Freshman Stani Schiavone is tied for 43rd at 5-over 149.

"Chelsey played really great," Goble said. "She had a hand injury and was unable to practice and play like she wanted to before the tournament. She was uncomfortable Sunday, but for her to come back the way she did was fantastic. She leads by example.

Cothran (five) and Davis (four) combined for nine of Baylor's 14 second-round birdies.

"The biggest thing Monday was that we played with the No. 3 team in the nation (Auburn) and hung with them all day," Goble said. "It shows that we can compete with anyone. We have a good chance to win Tuesday if we remain patient."

Baylor will look for its third tournament win of the season Tuesday. The final round will tee off at 8 a.m. CST. Live scoring will be available at www.GolfStat.com.
