SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico – Baylor women's golf is tied for 10th place after shooting 20-over-par 304 in Friday's first round of the Battle at the Beach at Club Campestre San Jose.
The Bears (+20) are just six shots back of four teams tied for fourth place. BU trails Auburn (+3), Texas (+8), Mississippi State (+10), TCU (+14), Virginia (+14), Vanderbilt (+14), Tulane (+14), Oklahoma (+15) and Missouri (+20). Baylor is tied with Houston (+20) and ahead of Clemson (+23), Iowa (+24), Denver (+25), Tulsa (+29), New Mexico (+29) and UAB (+38).
Fiona Liddell carded the Bears' best round of the day with a 2-over 73 to sit in a tie for 12th place individually. Gurleen Kaur and Diane Baillieux are tied for 34th place at 5-over 76, and Laila Hrindova posted Baylor's final counting score with an 8-over 79 to sit in a tie for 66th place.
Maria Vesga is in 91st place after a 13-over 84, but she recovered from a slow start to card 2-over on the back-9. Three BU players are competing as individuals, with Amelia McKee and Erica Chiang tied for 34th place at 5-over 76 and Jordan Shackelford tied for 74th place at 9-over 80.
