SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico – Baylor women's golf is tied for 10^th place after shooting 20-over-par 304 in Friday's first round of the Battle at the Beach at Club Campestre San Jose.

The Bears (+20) are just six shots back of four teams tied for fourth place. BU trails Auburn (+3), Texas (+8), Mississippi State (+10), TCU (+14), Virginia (+14), Vanderbilt (+14), Tulane (+14), Oklahoma (+15) and Missouri (+20). Baylor is tied with Houston (+20) and ahead of Clemson (+23), Iowa (+24), Denver (+25), Tulsa (+29), New Mexico (+29) and UAB (+38).

Fiona Liddell carded the Bears' best round of the day with a 2-over 73 to sit in a tie for 12^th place individually. Gurleen Kaur and Diane Baillieux are tied for 34^th place at 5-over 76, and Laila Hrindova posted Baylor's final counting score with an 8-over 79 to sit in a tie for 66^th place.

Maria Vesga is in 91^st place after a 13-over 84, but she recovered from a slow start to card 2-over on the back-9. Three BU players are competing as individuals, with Amelia McKee and Erica Chiang tied for 34^th place at 5-over 76 and Jordan Shackelford tied for 74^th place at 9-over 80.

HIGHLIGHTS

Baylor is tied for fifth in par-3 scoring at 5-over 3.20, tied for 12^th in par-5 scoring at 3-over 5.15 and 14^th in par-4 scoring at 25-over 4.56.
BU is tied for 11^th with nine birdies and also tied for 11^th with 44 pars.
Fiona Liddell leads the 92-player field in par-3 scoring at 2-under 2.60.
Diane Baillieux is tied for ninth in par-3 scoring at even-par 3.00.
Liddell and Baillieux are tied for 10^th in par-5 scoring at 1-under 4.75.
Erica Chiang is tied for 10^th with 12 pars across 18 holes, while Amelia McKee is tied for 15^th with 11 pars.

STAT OF THE DAY
12 – the number of shots three Baylor players combined to trim off their scores on the back-9. Diane Baillieux was 5-over at the turn and played the back-9 at even-par, while Maria Vesga was 11-over going out and 2-over coming in and Gurleen Kaur was 4-over at the turn and 1-over on the back-9.

Baylor is paired with Missouri, Houston and Clemson for Saturday's second round, which is scheduled for an 8 a.m. local (10 a.m. CT) shotgun start.
