Bears and Longhorns will meet in top-six matchup Sunday on Longhorn Network
WACO, Texas – No. 6 Baylor men's tennis (18-2, 1-0 Big 12) makes the quick trip south to face fourth-ranked Texas (18-2, 1-0 Big 12) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. CT at the Texas Tennis Center in Austin.
The Bears will play their fourth top-10 opponent and 13th ranked foe of the season to open conference road action.
Baylor is 10-1 against Texas in Austin in its last 11 meetings with the lone loss coming in the Big 12 Championship match a season ago. Baylor took the doubles point and got a singles win from Johannes Schretter, but the Bears ultimately fell to second-seeded and host Texas, 4-2.
Baylor comes into the match with three ranked singles players in No. 40 Johannes Schretter, No. 45 Matias Soto and No. 82 Will Little and the top-ranked doubles tandem in the country in Jimmy Bendeck and Sven Lah.
Meanwhile, the Longhorns have four ranked singles players in No. 6 Christian Sigsgaard, No. 9 Yuya Ito, No. 59 Harrison Scott and No. 104 Leonardo Telles. In doubles, Sigsgaard and Scott are the No. 7 team in the country.
Texas leads the all-time series, 43-21, but Baylor is 21-7 against the Longhorns since 2000. On Sunday, the Bears look to capture its first win in the series since 2017 and snap a three-match losing skid to UT.
The Bears are coming off a 5-2 home win over No. 9 TCU while the Longhorns blanked No. 29 Texas, 7-0, in Austin.
