Bears record wins over nine top-40 ranked teams

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Baylor women's golf finished in eighth place with a 54-hole total of 42-over-par 894 at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. The Bears shot 23-over 307 in Sunday's final round at Long Cove Club.
The No. 20-ranked Bears (+42) finished ahead of nine top-40 ranked teams, including No. 18 Arkansas (+44), No. 12 LSU (+45), No. 21 Florida State (+49), No. 22 Vanderbilt (+54), No. 13 Alabama (+55), No. 33 Furman (+61), No. 28 Georgia (+61), No. 40 Northwestern (+64) and No. 34 Virginia (+67).
Six of the seven teams in front of Baylor entered the tournament higher-ranked than the Bears. BU placed behind No. 7 Wake Forest (+3), No. 19 Auburn (+29), No. 6 Duke (+32), No. 14 UCLA (+33), No. 1 Texas (+36), No. 4 South Carolina (+39) and No. 36 North Carolina (+41).
Elodie Chapelet led the team with a tie for 10th place individually in the 90-player field. She carded 3-over 74 on Sunday to finish at 7-over 220 for the tournament. Diane Baillieux shot 6-over 77 on Sunday and tied for 23rd place at 9-over 222. Gurleen Kaur tied for 33rd place at 11-over 224 after a final round of 8-over 79, while Erica Chiang and Hannah Karg tied for 72nd place at 23-over 236 after both shot 7-over 78 in the final round.
HIGHLIGHTS
4.56 – Gurleen Kaur posted a 4-under, 4.56 par-5 scoring average for the tournament, which led all golfers in the 90-player field.

Baylor returns to action in two weeks at the Anuenne Spring Break Classic, which runs March 23-25 at Kapalua Bay Course in Maui, Hawaii. BU then heads to the Grove Cup at Ole Miss Golf Club in Oxford, Miss., for its final tournament before the Big 12 Championship, which will be played April 24-26 at Dallas Athletic Club. - BU finished seventh with 163 pars and tied for eighth with 24 birdies.
- Kaur led the 90-player field in par-5 scoring at 4-under 4.56, while Chapelet tied for 18th at even-par 5.00.
- Kaur and Chapelet tied for the team lead and tied for 22nd overall in par-4 scoring at 6-over 4.18.
- Baillieux tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring at 1-under 2.92, while Karg and Chapelet tied for 14th at 1-over 3.08.
- Chapelet tied for second with 39 pars across 54 holes, and Kaur tied for 10th with 36 pars.
- Baillieux led the team and tied for 16th overall with seven birdies, while Kaur added six birdies, Chiang and Chapelet had four birdies apiece and Karg had three birdies.
