HOCKLEY, Texas — Baylor women's golf finished Wednesday in 12
th place at The Big 12 Championship after a 31-over 599 through 36 holes at Houston Oaks.
Entering this event with a season record of 64-57-3, BU needs to finish ahead of at least three teams to be eligible for the postseason per the new ".500 rule" in women's golf. Just 11 shots separate seventh place through 13
th place entering Thursday's final round. Oklahoma State took its place atop the leader board at 6-over 574 on Thursday to lead second place Houston by two.
Baylor was led individually by
Sera Hasegawa and
BaiMai Seema, who each shot 2-over 73s in the second round to move into a tie for 34
th place. Marta Silchenko of Oklahoma State, Camille Min-Gaultier of TCU and Natalie Saint Germain of Houston all moved to 2-under on Wednesday, sharing the second-round individual lead.
THE RUNDOWN
Hasegawa had a steady opening nine with eight pars and just one bogey at No. 15. She got back to level par with a birdie at No. 2 before closing with bogeys at Nos. 6 and 9.
Seema made a pair of bogeys on her outward nine at Nos. 11 and 17 to turn with a 38. She opened her second nine with four straight pars ahead of a third bogey at No. 5. The senior closed the round with a bang, hitting a good tee shot into No. 9 and finishing off the birdie putt for a 2-over 73.
Ashleen Kaur tied for 34
th Wednesday on the heels of a 7-over 78. Three bogeys dotted her outward nine at Nos. 13, 15 and 17 to make the turn at 3-over. Her second nine included four more bogeys at Nos. 3, 4, 6 and 9.
Silje Ohma fell into a tie for 42
nd with a 5-over 76 in round two. Two bogeys at Nos. 10 and 15 dropped her to 2-over through six holes, only to see her battle back and make the turn at even with birdies at Nos. 16 and 18. After three straight bogeys to start the second side, Ohma settled in with five straight pars but dropped two shots with a double-bogey at No. 9.
Malena Castro made her Big 12 Championship debut with a 5-over 76 to provide a counting score for the Bears. The freshman played her first three holes at even par, making a bogey at No. 11 and a birdie at No. 12. A double bogey at No. 14 and a bogey at No. 18 moved her to 3-over on her opening nine. Following two more bogeys at Nos. 2 and 4, Castro settled in for a clean card the rest of the way to finish her 76.
