Four Bears card top-20 finishes at Traditions
BRYAN, Texas — Baylor women's golf put together its best round of the tournament Tuesday to finish fourth at the "Mo"Morial Invitational at Traditions Golf Club.
BU's 60-over 924 landed them three strokes in front of fifth-place Texas State, a shot behind third-place Abilene Christian and 44 shots behind the champion and host, Texas A&M.
Four Bears finished inside the top 20, led By Silje Ohma's 11th-place finish on the heels of an 11-over 228. Ashleen Kaur finished three shots behind Ohma in a tie for 14th and two ahead of teammates BaiMai Seema and Bridget Boczar, who recorded ties for 19th.
Texas A&M's Cayetana Fernandez was the only player under par, riding a 2-under 214 to a three-shot victory.
THE RUNDOWN
Ohma took a bogey on her opening hole at No. 6, adding three more at Nos. 10, 18 and 1, before closing with two birdies in her final four holes at Nos. 2 and 5.
Kaur finished tied for 16th with a 4-over 76 on Tuesday. The sophomore carded two early bogeys at Nos. 6 and 9 but responded with a pair of birdies at Nos. 12 and 14 to get back to even. Two more bogeys at Nos. 15 and 18 pushed her back to 2-over before she closed with back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 3 and 4.
Seema played her first four holes at 4-over with a bogey at No. 7, a double-bogey at No. 8 and a bogey at No. 10. Her first birdie of the day came at No. 12, part of a nine-hole stretch she played at 1-under. The senior finished her final five holes at 5-over par, bogeying Nos. 2 and 4, adding a triple-bogey on the final hole at No. 6.
Sera Hasegawa put together her best round of the championship with a 2-over 74 to tie for 23rd. A birdie at No. 6 put Hasegawa in red figures for the first 13 holes of her round. The senior ran into some trouble with three straight bogeys at Nos. 18, 1 and 2 to move up 15 spots and into the top-25 in the final round.
Malena Castro carded a 9-over 81 to finish tied for 53rd. A bogey at No. 4 and a birdie at No. 7 put her at even through eight holes. The freshman played her next three holes at 6-over par with a double-bogey at No. 12, a triple-bogey at No. 13 and a bogey at No. 14. She made another triple at No. 1 to finish at 28-over for the championship.
Bridget Boczar finished tied for 21st as an individual on the heels of a 6-over 78 in the final round.
