165 Bears Named to Commissioner's Honor Roll

WACO, Texas - A total of 165 Baylor student-athletes were named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the spring semester the league office recently announced. In addition, nineteen Bears earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages (GPA).

Acknowledging all participants, the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll is an inclusive honor for all sports sponsored by the membership of the league. The honor roll is recorded and released each semester and recognizes those student-athletes who registered a 3.00 or better grade point average on a 4.00 scale the previous semester.

Submitted by each institution's Directors of Student-Athlete Support Services, those honored are not necessarily the stars on the field and court but those who participate on the team. They include the letterwinners and non-letterwinners to recognize every student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom.

More than 2,000 Big 12 student-athletes are named to the Commissioner's Honor rolls each semester. Baylor's 334 honorees during the 2004-05 season ranks as the third-most in school history.

Women's track, soccer and softball accounted for 13 of the 19 4.0 GPAs. Track's Brittany Brockman, Alissa McKaig, Brinn Newmann, Mercy Wagner and Erin Wait led with the highest total of perfect marks with five. Soccer and softball each tallied four perfect GPAs. Soccer's Monica Housden, April Robertson, Kristen Rueff and Lori Viggiano and softball's Danelle Arnold, Sarah Hausner, Kelly Levesque and April Luce all achieved all A's. Also making the 4.0 list were baseball's Zach Dillon, football's Shawn Bell, Bill Allcorn from men's golf, Klara Zrustova from women's tennis and men's tracksters Jordan Hamilton and Joel Martin.
