Snyder tied for third individually at 3-under 69

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Baylor women's golf is tied for seventh place after shooting 5-over-par 293 in Friday's first round of the Ping/ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Club.
The No. 8-ranked Bears (+5) are tied with No. 14 Northwestern (+5) and No. 44 Oregon State (+5) and in front of No. 15 Oregon (+6), No. 23 UCLA (+7), No. 48 New Mexico (+9), Washington State (+10), Cal Poly (+11) and California (+19). BU trails No. 38 Stanford (-4), No. 7 Arizona State (-3), No. 34 Michigan (+3), Denver (+3), San Jose State (+3) and No. 17 Arizona (+4).
Freshman Britta Snyder had a clean round with three birdies and 15 pars to card 3-under 69, placing her in a tie for third in the 84-player field. Rosie Belsham is tied for 26th place at 1-over 73 and Hannah Karg is tied for 34th place at 2-over 74. Elodie Chapelet had BU's final counting score in the first round at 5-over 77 to tie for 63rd place, and Gurleen Kaur is tied for 71st place at 6-over 78. Diane Baillieux, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 34th place at 2-over 74.
The Bears were 1-under as a team at the turn and remained 1-under through 14 holes before playing the final four holes at 6-over. Snyder started the round with consecutive birdies, then made 11-straight pars before sinking another birdie on No. 14 to get to 3-under. She finished with four more pars to complete the clean round.
STAT OF THE DAY
1-under – both Britta Snyder and Gurleen Kaur shot 1-under on the back-9. Snyder sank eight pars and one birdie after the turn, while Kaur recovered from a 7-over front-9 to make three birdies and post 1-under on the back-9.
