QUEEN OF THE BOARDS
Darianna Littlepage-Buggs admits that she didn't even have a clue what a double-double was as a freshman at Baylor. "Once I figured it out, it just kind of stuck," said the 6-1 senior forward. "I just knew, if I can do one thing, I can go rebound, and I just stuck to that."
LOCK-DOWN DEFENSE
Following the scouting report to a tee, the No. 18/17 Baylor women's basketball team took away Utah's 3-point threats and back-cut layups to hold the Utes to 26.2% shooting overall and just 3-of-25 from outside the arc in a defensive-minded 61-45 win at the Huntsman Center.
HEAD OF THE SNAKE
Baylor's "head of the defensive snake," Bella Fontleroy matched her career high with five blocks, took three charges and added 11 points, five rebounds, one assist and a steal to help the No. 16 Bears hold off the Colorado Buffaloes, 56-52, at Foster Pavilion.
GOING DEEPER
Playing back-to-back games in elevation, there's a good chance that Baylor coach Nicki Collen will have to go a little deeper into her bench for Wednesday's game at Utah and Saturday's matchup at BYU. That could mean significantly more minutes for freshman guard Marcayla Johnson and SMU transfer Ella Brow. Even redshirt freshman Ines Goryanova could see her first game action in almost two years.
TAKE YOUR SHOT
With the 10th-ranked Iowa State defense playing off her, Darianna Littlepage-Buggs hit her first five shots and recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and a career-high-tying 20 rebounds to help the No. 22/21 Bears hand the Cyclones their first loss of the season, 72-70, at Hilton Coliseum.
INSTANT IMPACT
And while Ella Brow "didn't do anything to wow us," she made the most of her first five minutes in a Baylor uniform. The Aussie native had two assists and a rebound and provided a defensive spark in the Bears' biggest comeback in program history, rallying from a 19-point deficit to knock off the Cowgirls, 77-68.
THE BANK IS OPEN
"In totality, I thought that might be the best game she's played in a Baylor uniform," Collen said of Kyla Abraham.
NO FEAR
"The look in her eyes was not fear. When I said to go one-on-one, she said, 'Okay, good,''' Collen said. "After she made the shot, she told (assistant coach Tez Dumars), 'This is just the beginning.' I do think it's a big confidence builder for her."
DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST FONTLEROY
Named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team a year ago, Bella Fontleroy has never averaged double-digit points in her career at Baylor. But if Sunday's game (vs. Lindenwood) was any indication, that might change.
NO FEAR
This is why Taliah Scott is at Baylor. Playing for her third team in as many seasons, the Auburn transfer scored six points in the first 90 seconds of the fourth quarter and outscored the seventh-ranked Duke Blue Devils, 12-9, in the period to lift the No. 16 Baylor Bears to a 58-52 win in Monday's season-opening Oui-Play Game.
